Furrion Chill Cube 18K AC Installation Differences vs Coleman Mach in 2024 Winnebago Vita 24P

i am looking for a better A?C for my 2024 Winnebago Vita24P , will the Furion 18K sorta plug and paly into my existing wiring ? how difficult if not what abboout this new Coleman Mach 18 how does that compare with the Furion

Rick, you definitely picked one of the nicest RV AC systems out there with the Furrion Chill Cube part # FR49TD. I completely understand wanting to know how involved the install will be before diving into it because nobody wants to get halfway through an AC swap and realize the wiring is completely different.

The biggest thing to know is that the Chill Cube is not really a plug and play replacement for a Coleman Mach system. The good news is the roof opening and main 120 volt power wiring are standard, so mounting the unit itself is pretty straightforward. The part that changes is the controls. The Chill Cube uses a completely different variable speed inverter system, so you would need to replace the existing Coleman air box, thermostat, and control components with the Furrion parts that come included in the kit. Unfortunately there is not an adapter that allows it to work with the existing Coleman controls.

Honestly though, the Furrion is a huge upgrade in comfort. It runs much quieter, cools more smoothly, and does not constantly blast on and off like older rooftop AC units. If your biggest goals are quieter nights and better cooling comfort in the Vita, I really think the Furrion is worth the more involved install.

What kind of trips do you usually take in the Vita, humid coastal weather, desert heat, or cooler mountain camping?

We just completed a replacement of the Coleman Mach 15 with the Furrion Chill Cube. It was fairly straight forward. We did make a 2 part video documenting the replacement. Our YouTube channel is @soldonrvlife and the videos are RV AC Upgrade Part 1 and 2. For us, there was a bunch of wiring that was used by the Coleman Mach system that wasn't used so it was zip tied and tucked away. The Furrion kit comes with all the wiring blocks you will need and is very easy to wire up. Hot, neutral and ground. From my experience, the hardest part of the replacement was getting the new unit on the roof and then taking the old one down. No specialty tools were needed, just make sure to have an inch pound torque wrench for the mounting bolts. Once installed, you can control the unit with the remote control or the panel on the unit itself. The biggest change we had to deal with is the Chill Cube runs continually. It is VERY quiet which makes a big difference but I just wanted to share that one trait as the Coleman would cycle on and off. Once the requested temps are reached, the Furrion will cycle down the compressor and fan to a very low setting which is barely noticeable. I would definitely recommend the Furrion Chill Cube and DIY installation.

Real-world installation experiences are incredibly helpful, especially for folks who are trying to decide whether this is a DIY-friendly project or something they'll need to hire out. Now you've got me curious, how much of a difference did you notice at night after making the switch? Was the reduction in noise the biggest improvement, or did you also notice better temperature consistency throughout the RV? And thanks for sharing your YouTube videos. @HeatherA We have noticed a significant reduction in noise when the unit is running. Once it gets the room to temp, it throttles down the compressor and fan and you can barely hear it. A big improvement over the original unit. We haven't needed to run it over night as they have been cooler but I do know we can't hear it running from the bedroom. @Olie That's incredibly helpful feedback, especially coming from someone who has lived with both systems. The noise reduction sounds like exactly what a lot of RV owners are looking for. I wish we could post videos here, but we don't quite have that technology built yet! I did find your channel though by searching "Sold On RV Life" in google.
