Thanks for reaching out, I'd be more than happy to help you get setup for flat towing your 2015 Chevy Equinox!
For a complete flat towing setup you will need a base plate kit, tow bar, safety cables, vehicle tow bar wiring, a supplemental braking system, and possibly a high-low adapter. Here are the parts I recommend:
Blue Ox Base Plate Kit - # BX1689
etrailer SD Non-Binding Tow Bar - # e47ZR (comes with safety cables)
Wiring Kit - # RM-15267
Charge Line Kit - # RM-156-25
Fuse Bypass (for ABS fuse) - Part # RM-76517 (4-Cylinder) OR Part # RM76511 (V6) - optional
Brake Kit - Part # DM86VR (MH hydraulic brakes) OR Part # DM26VR (MH air brakes)
High-Low Adapter - See article (bracket height is 13-1/2")
The Blue Ox base plate kit looks nice and is easy to connect the etrailer tow bar to, while the tow bar itself has some adjustability in the head section to give you the most level towing setup you can achieve. The wiring kit is easy to connect once it's installed and you'll wire the charge line kit to the middle pin on the 6-Way socket to keep your battery from draining. The fuse bypass is optional but also helps make disconnecting your fuse as easy as the flip of a switch.
The brake kits have just the initial installation and after that it's just a matter of making a few connections prior to towing as opposed to having to set everything up each time you go to to like what happens with a portable brake system.
