Recommended Weight Distribution Shank for Towing w/ a Tailgate Down

Published 01/06/2023

Question:

We have a 2018 Toyota Tundra w/short bed 5.5 we are towing our 2021 Shasta 310k 36ft. and have the R3 sway control hitch setup. However we need to carry our golf cart in the bed of the truck with tailgate down and need a hitch extender to do so because the hitch hits the tailgate. my biggest worry is using an extender and down grading my tongue weight due to the weight of the golf cart on the tailgate and the weight of the camper. need some advise

To give you some extra room to drop your tailgate down you are going to want to use the Equal-i-zer Weight Dist Shank item # EQ90-02-4600. This extended weight distribution shank will not reduce your Tundra's tongue weight capacity. It is 18" long overall and from the pin hole to the first hole on the shank is 13". This should give you plenty of room to tow with your tailgate down.

I confirmed that the R3 weight distribution hitch is designed for standard weight distribution shanks like the Equal-i-zer item # EQ90-02-4600.

I have linked a review video below.
