Question:
I have a Ram 1500,,,,with a reese weight distribution hitch,,,I pull a TT weighing approx 7000 lb,,,,My question is,,,I cant put my motorcycle in the truck bed because the tail gate has to be down,,,,cant put the tasil gate down because it hits the trailer jack,,,,,can I put an extension on the trailer hitch receiver to extend the ball hitch out enough,,,about 17 inches,,the let the tail gate down while pulling the TT,,will an extension take the weight being extended out that far? and is there an extension made to do this? Thank

Using a standard hitch extender isn't going to be your best option because they will reduce the weight capacity of your hitch and you'll have trouble finding one long enough that is rated high enough for your 7,000 pounds travel trailer.
A better option is an extra long shank of your weight distribution system. The Equal-I-zer Weight Distribution Shank # EQ90-02-4600 is 18 inches long and will provide either 8 inches of rise or 4 inches of drop. The hole spacing is 1-1/4 inches which should be the same as on your Reese system. The towing weight range is from 6,000 to 14,000 pounds so it's plenty for your trailer.

Why do you rate this hitch shank with 6,000 to 14,000 pounds? Which is it? I don't understand what the 6,000 lb number represents. Thanks
