Universal Axle w/ Electric Brakes for a 2,500 lbs Custom Trailer

Question:

I am looking for a univeral fit tandem trailer axel system that fits 16 wheels and allows for brake system. Suggestions? I have a 4x8 custom built travel trailer and it weighs ~2500 lbs. I have off road 16” tires that I want to use and would prefer if 1/2 the suspension system came w/ brakes installed.

Thanks for the additional information and pictures! I have a solution for your trailer that is a universal system but will not require you to have two axles. This will save you quite a bit of money and effort. I recommend the Timbren Axle-Less Trailer Suspension System item # ASR3500S06. This universal system is built to handle off road tires like your 16" ones. You can add the Dexter Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly item # 84656UC3-EZ which have a 6 on 5-1/2 bolt pattern. These will allow you to install the Dexter Nev-R-Adjust Electric Trailer Brake Kit item # 23-468-469 to add brakes to your trailer. These components have a 3,500 lbs capacity and work with 16" tires.

Some other parts you will need to add brakes to your trailer are listed below:

7-Way Molded Trailer Wire Connector - 3' Long item # H20042 to power your brakes and lights.

Trailer Wiring Junction Box item # 38656 to consolidate all of your wiring in one safe secure location.

Jacketed 2 Wire (Brake Wire) - 12 Gauge - per Foot item # 12-2-1 to wire your new brakes.

Breakaway Kit with Built-In Battery Charger - Top Load item # 20400 to stop your trailer in case of an emergency.
