Question:
I currently have the Fastway E2 Trunnion 8000 lbs, 800 TW bars. Just bought new camper 2810kik that has a Gross weight of ~9600 lbs. Would the 10000, 1000 TW bars be the right choice for new camper?

Expert Reply:
If your camper has a gross weight of ~9600 pounds, your loaded tongue weight is about 10-15% of that weight. When calculated, the loaded tongue weight is about 960-1440 pounds. Since this is the case, on your current Fastway E2 Hitch # FA92-00-0800, I recommend going with the 1,200 Pound TW bars # FA92-01-1299 over the 1,000 Pound TW bars # FA92-02-1099. The # FA92-01-1299 will provide you with a much more comfortable ride on your setup.
However, it is important to note that your loaded tongue weight may still be over the 1,200 pounds of the # FA92-01-1299. In order to make sure you are below the tongue weight maximum, the easiest way to do this is by weighing your loaded tongue weight with a bathroom scale and a cinder block/support brick and piping. I went ahead and attached a helpful article to walk you through this process. If you are uncomfortable with this method, you can always purchase a tongue weight scale. I recommend the etrailer Tongue Weight Scale for Campers and Utility Trailers - 2,000-lb Capacity # e99044. With this scale, you simply load your trailer tongue onto the scale for the reading.
