Question:

Hi, I have a 2011 tundra base double cab with a tow package and 4 pin flat. I want to connect a 7 pin round to the rear of the truck. I purchased the adapter to plug into the 4 pin. I need to ground it, hook up power cable, and blue brake wire but I cant find the blue brake wire under the truck to splice into. Any advice as to where it could be? Thank you!

If your 2011 Toyota Tundra has a towing package but only a 4-flat you may not have a blue brake controller wire. The package with the factory installed 7-way trailer connector on the rear bumper included the plug under the dash, as shown in the photo I've attached for you. However, not all models with the factory 4-pole (or 4-pin) trailer connector will also have the plug under the dash, you'll need to look for a white plug located above and to the left of the emergency brake pedal, above the toe kick. This is the port the item # 3040-P you were looking at connects too. Occasionally, the plug will be located behind the toe kick, so you might need to remove it to find out for sure. If your truck has the 4-pole but no tow package connector under the dash, you'll need to hardwire the controller. This would explain why you have been unable to find a blue wire.

I am not sure what adapter you have but to add a 7-way connector to your truck you will need the Universal Installation Kit for Trailer Brake Controller - 7-Way RV and 4-Way Flat - 10 Gauge Wires item # ETBC7. The kit includes a pre-wired 7- and 4-way trailer connector that mounts easily at the rear of your Tundra with an included bracket. This kit is designed for use on a vehicle with an existing 4-way flat trailer connector and plugs directly into it. This includes a brake controller wire that will run all the way into the cab of your Tundra. I have linked a video below of this kit being installed on an earlier model Toyota Tundra.

If you just want to wire your 7-way to your existing 4-flat and run the power and ground you will still be able to use a brake controller on your Tundra. The Curt Echo Wireless Trailer Brake Controller item # C51180 does not require you to run the brake control wire. I have linked a review video below. So long as you have the 4-flat connector and the power and ground hooked up to your 7-way the Echo will work perfectly with your Tundra.
