Question:
I've purchased a 2019 Lance 2375 trailer that we'll pick up next week; I tow with a 2000 Ford F350 Crew Cab/Short Bed truck. I plan to purchase an Equalizer hitch from the RV dealership, but I've heard that, in some cases, the tailgate won't come down with the trailer hitched--it's usually the electric tongue jack that gets in the way. (I sold my Reese Dual Cam after we bought our motorhome, thinking we were finished with trailers. I was wrong. I never had a clearance problem with our Arctic Fox 25R--it was close, but the tailgate cleared.) The standard EQ hitch shank is 12" long; they offer an 18" shank, but that's probably much longer than I'd need. Can I purchase a no-shank hitch from Equalizer and use a Reese 14" shank? Thanks for your help. If you happen to have other suggestions for adding just a bit of shank length, let me know.

The Equal-i-zer Weight Distribution System 10K which is what I recommend for a Lance 2375 Travel Trailer can be obtained with the shank as part # EQ37100ET or without as part # EQ37101ET. The most common reason others purchase the system without the shank is so they can go with a larger hitch size or longer shank to clear the tailgate.
The Equalizer Shank part # EQ90-02-4500 should allow most trucks to lower the tailgate without hitting the jack. I wouldn't say it's too much at all but rather just enough. If you want to use a shank from another system it will need to have a flat face where the washers press against.
