Shank Recommendation for 2.5 inch Hitch for Weight Distribution System
Updated 11/03/2026 | Published 11/01/2026 >
Question:
I currently have an 10,000lb Equal-I-zer hitch. Im using a 2x2.5 sleeve since my ram2500 is 2.5. The shank is moving too much and damaging the receivers pin hole. Anti-rattle device is not an option since the receiver is up against the painted bumper. Id like to convert the shank to a 2-1/2 to reduce the play. The current one looks like it has 4 holes. What info do you need to help me pick out the right shank? Thanks,

Hey John, welcome back! We have just what you are looking for with a weight distribution shank designed for your 2.5 inch hitch size with like the part # EQ90-02-4900. This fits your hitch directly without needing an additional sleeve adapter. This can do a drop of up to 6 inches which covers most towing setups but to be absolutely sure on what you need I would need you to get back to me with the amount of drop you are using currently. When you said your has 4 holes did you mean vertical adjustment holes?

I had the same problem bought the one with 8" drop so I had plenty of holes. Then I could readjust my ball height. And the whole distribution hitch works like a charm. I have the equalizer 4 point sway control 10k pulls alot better now its on a 2016 Ram 2500 it sits pretty high. Hope that helps

The hitch is currently using the bottom two holes of the shank. I can back it up to the trailer tomorrow and get some measurements for you. How can I send you a photo? Currently I have five washers in place but after putting the truck and trailer on a scale it's obvious I don't nearly have enough.
