I have two batteries both 12 volt deep cycle but different brands. Can they be hooked in parallel?

In short, yes you can hook batteries from different brands in parallel. You would want to ensure that the batteries are of the same type though. You should not mix different types (deep cycle and starting), chemistry (wet cell /AGM/GEL...) or the capacity. You want to ensure they are not only both 12v deep cycle batteries but that they have the same Amp Hour rating. Ideally you would want batteries in similar age as well.
