Question:
We ordered a replacement of our Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector # AT36681 because our old one was 6 years old. I understand that we only have to connect 1 red wire and the black one which is the ground wire. The problem is that the wires that were attached to our old one are 1 white and 1 orange. Which is which? The link in your answer about correct wiring takes me to several pages showing installation of all kinds of automotive products. After scrolling through 10 pages I gave up.

You'll want to use a circuit tester # PTW2992 to see which of your trailer wires is your positive wire. The Atwood RV Carbon Monoxide and Propane Gas Detector AT36681 is a 3-wire detector and since you stated you only have two wires (white & Orange) you'll actually want to use a 2-wire detector like the 2-Wire RV Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector - 12 Volt - White # RS34FR instead. The black wire on this unit is your ground and the red wire will go to your power wire.
I've attached a video where AJ will walk you through installation of this gas and carbon monoxide detector to help as well.
