Correct Atwood LPCO 36636 Wires to Connect to RV Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector
Updated 11/13/2025 | Published 10/21/2025 >
Question:
I plan to replace an old Atwood LPCO 36636 detector with a RS54FR detector as you suggest . My detector has 2 red leads spliced together and then connected to an in-line fuse and then connected to power lead. Single black to common. Might I assume that I can connect single red lead on RS54FR to the in-line fuse and install as done with old detector.

Hey Dan!
Yes, you'll connect the red to red and black to black for installing the RV Propane Gas and Carbon Monoxide Detector # RS54FR in your situation.
That extra red wire should be for a backup power source so the detector can still function if something happens to the first source.

Hey Dan, how did the wiring go with the new RV propane and carbon monoxide detector? Your setup sounds straightforward, so I’m curious if everything powered up as expected. Sharing how it turned out could help others replacing older Atwood units too.
