Changing Out Rubber Valve Stems For Metal Valve Stems On a Trailer Tire and Wheel Combination

Can I order a tire and wheel combination with metal valve stems in order to mount a tpms?

All of our tire and wheel packages come to us mounted by the manufacturer. If you would like to use a Metal Valve Stem # AM20906 you can take the wheel and tire to a tire service center and have the valve stems changed out or it can be done at home as well.

To change out the valve stem yourself you can either cut off the rubber stem on the outside which will release the air from inside the tire or use a Valve Core Wrench # 301-17147 to remove the core in the stem. Depending on the wheel and tire you may be able to step on the sidewall of the tire to get it to break free on the valve stem side of the wheel. If you cannot break the bead this way you can also use the weight of a garden tractor or vehicle to break the bead. You should be able to push the tire in far enough from the wheel to remove the rubber stem and install the metal replacement stem. Once you have the metal stem mounted you will be able to fill the tire back up with air which will reseat the tire bead on the wheel. Be sure that the area between the bead and wheel is clear of anything or anyone's body parts.
