Can I Transport 1 49-Pound Bike on the Kuat Transfer V2?

Question:

The Kuat Transfer 3 has a weight limit of 40 pounds per bike for a total of 120 pounds. Can I carry one 49 pound bike safely with the other two bike positions empty on the rack?

I have a solution for you. For bike racks that have a maximum per-bike weight capacity, each individual bike cannot exceed that single weight capacity on the rack. Loading a 49-pound bike on the Kuat Transfer V2 Bike Rack for 3 Bikes - 2" Hitches - Wheel Mount # KU24FR would be over that limit.

With that being said, a great solution is the RockyMounts MonoRail Bike Rack for 3 Bikes - 2" Hitches # RKY10004-10005. the Monorail comes with a 60-pound maximum weight capacity when the add-on is removed (converting it into a 2-bike rack). It also comes with the same wheel-mount attachment style as the Transfer V2. To top it all off, the MonoRail comes with locks to protect the bikes and the rack itself from theft.
