Question:
Can I use the road master mx baseplate on my 2006 Honda crv with the falcon 5250 tow bar to avoid the crossbar? Also, do you prefer the bulb or diode lighting system on this vehicle? Thank you.

According to my Roadmaster representative, their older # 5250 Falcon tow bar is indeed compatible with MX base plates.
To wire the tow vehicle and the CRV together, there are some different alternatives. A wiring kit like # RM-154 from Roadmaster would permanently tap into the vehicle's wiring. I've linked a video of the install for you. A bulb and socket kit like # RM-155 would permanently install an extra bulb into each taillight assembly. The installation is permanent, but allows the wiring to be completely independent from the CRV's wiring. A third option would be a magnetic mount tow lamp, like # RM-2120 that would be easily installed and removed as needed.
A brake light relay, part # RM-88400 might be required if used with a supplemental braking system. To determine if you do, go to the product page for the RM-88400 by following the provided link and scroll toward the bottom of the page. There will be a series of questions that will help you determine if the relay is needed, as well as installation diagrams.
From my research, it appears that your CR-V is capable of being flat towed, but you will want to confirm that for yourself. Honda or the emergency/recreational towing section of your owners manual might have some relevant information.
I will also link you to some flat towing FAQ articles that you might find helpful.
