We often include clearance measurements when we do a hitch installation videos for products like the Curt # 11000, but in the case of your 2010 Golf we do not happen to have done an installation video of this particular hitch on your particular vehicle.
So I pulled a piece from the warehouse and took measurements that will allow you to determine your clearance once the hitch is installed. I attached a photo of the hitch with measurements from the top surface of the lower mounting flange to the bottom-most part of the hitch, which is the bottom edge of the mounting bracket. This distance is 7-1/4 inches.
Once you locate the corresponding mounting surface on the underside of your Golf (the horizontal surface that will mate with the top surface of the lower mounting flange) you can then measure 7-1/4 inches down from that surface to determine the low point of the hitch when mounted.
Your actual clearance to ground from the lowest point on the hitch will depend on several other variables, such as the profile of your tires, your suspension and the passenger and cargo load inside the Golf. We do recommend the Curt support strap, part # 18050, depending on the hitch mount accessories you install, as this is required to maintain your hitch warranty from Curt. A heavy bike rack with two bikes, for example, will
benefit from the stabilizing support of this cambuckle-equipped strap.
