Question:
I was looking at a 2009 Smart Car to purchase. As I noticed an Hitch can be installed... This now become questionable because of the reason why I needed the Hitch. I am disable and use a scooter where as I have a Lift and small trailer to transport it. My question is will your Hitch and the 2009 Smart Car support both or either the lift or trailer?

Helpful Expert Reply:
Curt trailer hitch # C11020 will support a trailer weighing no more than 2,000 pounds and no more than 200 pounds tongue weight as long as the vehicle is rated to tow. You will need to consult the owners manual to determine if the vehicle can tow at all. If it can and its capacities are lower then you will go by the lower capacity.
A trailer is the safer way to go. A hitch mounted carrier and scooter on it will be far too heavy for this Class I trailer hitch. A trailer is easier on the hitch and more stable.
If you determine that you can tow the trailer then you will also need a ball mount # C45014, pin and clip, # PC2, and a properly sized ball. use # 19256 if the trailer requires a 1-7/8 inch ball or # 19258 for a 2 inch ball. You will also need trailer wiring, # 18252, to power the lights on the trailer. I have linked videos showing typical installations of the hitch and wiring for you.
