Trailer Wiring Harness for 2013 Volkswagen Golf

Question:

Looking for a wiring harness/converter with flat four To install In 2013 VW golf. Also rather than run a wire clear through the car to battery cannot one just use the rear power socket?

Hi David; the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter # C59236 you looked at will fit your 2013 VW Golf. There are no custom wiring harnesses available so the universal splice in is the only option. Also, you need to run the wire straight to the battery. It would be nice if the power socket at the rear worked but that circuit will likely end up overloaded and you don't want to damage your vehicle wiring and have other issues from it.

Are you towing a trailer or do you need to power lights on an accessory?

Hi David, did you decide to go with the Curt Powered Tail Light Converter for your VW Golf? I'm curious if it worked well for your towing or lighting needs, as your experience could help others in a similar situation.

@Robin Yes I went with the wh63265 kit which upon arrival was confusing because it comes as a two part kit with two separate part #s neither of which say wh63265. The part I dreaded was running the power wire to battery It wasn't that bad, but I did not run it undercarriage, but rather under door sills and thru an existing main wiring grommet. I used the ' fish wire' method by taping 12v wire to a straight piece of coathanger thru said grommet Much easier to remove battery and pull thru from engine bay Grommet is right behind battery. Only difficulty then was determining brake and stop wires Wish it had been plug and play as on 2016 VW golf as opposed to my 2013. But all good now. Allow three hours because you have to figure out how to undo door sills and rear fender panels .
