Question:

We bought the trailer used but it does not have a place in the gooseneck to attach safety chains maybe chains were not a requirement in 1989?. The part says it can be used with a gooseneck adapter, but can this part be used on the gooseneck tube of my 1989 trailer?

The Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter # AM3100 measures 4-1/2 inches in diameter on the outside and the Safety Chains # AM3109 fit around the adapter, as you can see in the accompanying photo. So as long as your gooseneck coupler has a 4-1/2 inch outer tube the chains will fit around it. If you have a different outer diameter let me know and I'll see what is best option.
