Video Transcript for A Closer Look at the Yakima HitchLock for Yakima Hitch Mounted Bike Racks

Hi, everybody. Andy here with etrailer.com. And today, we're gonna take a look at this Yakima HitchLock for the Yakima hitch mounted bike racks. This HitchLock is going to lock and secure your Yakima hitch mounted bike carrier to your vehicle's hitch receiver, ensuring the safety of your gear. Now, this is going to work with any Yakima hitch mounted bike carrier. And this will simply attach to the end of your existing Yakima hitch pin.

And I happen to have a Yakima hitch pin right here. So, this is gonna be very simple to use. You're just going to push the lock over the end of the pin until it clicks as you just heard there and then it is in place. And then to remove, you're just going to take one of the included keys and you are gonna get two keys. And just insert the key into the lock, give it a quarter of a turn, and it will slide right off.

Now, this lock includes Yakima's Same Key System or SKS locking core and as I mentioned, two keys. And what's nice about these SKS cores is they can be changed out and keyed alike with your other Yakima locks. This also has, as you can see, an attached dust cap and that is going to help keep the dirt and debris out of your lock. And this does have a lifetime warranty. Well, that's gonna conclude our brief look today.

I do hope that it was helpful for you. Again, my name is Andy. Thank you for joining me..

Great customer service

by:

Works as advertised.

by:

great service! good product!

by:

As described.

by:

Easy fit and sturdy piece.

by:

easy to use

by:

must have to make sure your bikes don't take a walk.

by:

Product works perfectly and the service was exemplary as usual

by:

Lock works great, just wish the bolt on the bike rack was shorter.

by:

Appears adequate for its intended use. Keys match both locks, a plus.

by:

Fits on the end of the anti rattle pin of the bike rack I bought. Keeps the pin secured so no one can easily remove it and steal the rack.

by:

The bike carrier is easy to set up and easy to install on the car. Once it is on the car it is easy to put the bikes on the carrier and they sure do ride on the carrier really nice.

by:

Simple to use Hitch Lock with 2 keys and an attached key-hole cover. Works perfect with hitch pin that came with my Rhode Gear Highway 2 Bike Carrier, also bought here on etrailer.

by:

This product is easy to install and get ready to mount to the vehicle. The only inconvenient feature is the hitch mount bolt that requires a wrench to install. I have another mfgs 2" hitch that utilizes a screw stabilizer on the end of the hitch rail and it makes install simpler. Overall good design and easy to load bikes on and off.

by:

This hitch lock works well. It is definitely light duty though, and just for keeping honest people honest. Also, the protective cap doesn't stay on well, and keeps popping off. I don't think it will stay on during a trip.
I am very impressed with the service of etrailer. Everyone I've spoken to was very friendly, professional, and helpful. I will definitely be buying from them again.

by:

Unfortunately the hitch pin didn’t fit my yakima bike rack.
I did receive a full refund which is nice.

by:

The hitch pin lock works perfectly.

by:

Had to use a heat gun to get the cap strap to hold the cover in place without popping open.

by:

Authentic Yakima replacement part. Better purchase options than (another site) if the locks were in stock there.
Easy ordering, super fast shipping and excellent communication throughout the process. Hope I can find more stuff to buy from

Glad we had just what you were needing, John! We carry pretty much everything under the sun that is related to towing, camping, and hauling. If you ever want to check if we carry something you are looking for, just let me know and I would be happy to help!

by:

Perfect replacement for the one I lost. It can be hard to sit on the skewer for locking (why I lost the original). Was able to get keys that match the bike rack cable locks.

by:

Exact replacement for the one I lost the keys to!

by:

Lost my lock & trailer was great in helping me get a replacement quickly as I was off on a trip & needed this part.

Very well &amp have had this now for years

by:

The lock works as intended except for what I assume is a plastic cover which would not stay attached to cover the key hole. We taped it on as we will not be removing the rack too often. I am not sure if there is a better way to secure it.

It always works great whenever, wherever we are.

Great customer service, responsive and informative in helping buy the right part.

Based on reviews of this hitch lock from Yakima failing, I purchased an extra. However, no failure to date.

A year later, and still no product failure. Part of this product success may be the fact that I changed the way I use it, keeping it permanently mounted on my RV hitch, minimizing the number of times I have to remove this lock.

  • What Kayak Rack and Bed Extender do You Recommend When Using the Access Lorado # A53VR?
Yes! You can use both a kayak rack and a truck bed extender on your 2021 Jeep Gladiator with the Trail Rail system. Since the Access Lorado Soft, Roll-Up Tonneau Cover # A53VR leaves the stake pockets completely open, you will be able to install a way to install a kayak rack like a stake-pocket mounted ladder rack. As long as the rack uses only the stake pockets without any clamps onto the bed rails, the rack is compatible with the cover. Since the Access Lorado rack is a roll-up style,...

  • Longer, Locking Hitch Pin Needed For A Yakima HookUp Bike Rack
Hey Eric, I spoke with Yakima and they unfortunately no longer offer a compatible hitch pin for the HookUp bike rack. Back when this was available there weren't double-walled trailer hitch receiver tubes so the pin length wasn't an issue. The only solution I can recommend would be to have a lock machine shop measure the thread pitch of your current hitch pin and cut you a new, longer hitch pin that would be compatible with their hitch lock # Y07235.

  • Trailer Hitch Recommendation for 2014 Toyota Tacoma
Both the Curt Class III Trailer Hitch # 13323 and the Draw-Tite Class III Trailer Hitch # 75236 would work well for you. These Class III trailer hitches have a 2 inch receiver, 5,000 pound max towing weight and 500 pound max tongue weight. For installation, both hitches require the bumper brackets to be loosed or removed. I would go with the Curt trailer hitch, as it is more economically friendly than Draw-Tite. The trailer hitch will bolt into existing weld nuts on your truck's frame....

  • Lost Keys for Lock on Yakima Doubledown and Need Replacements
Worst case scenario, I am going to assume that the hitch lock is the only Yakima lock that you have that used that key. If this is the case you will either need to have a locksmith pick the lock or you can try drilling it out. In this case you would then have to replace the lock with part # Y07235. If by chance you have another lock which used the same key and it is in the unlocked position, you could use Control Key, # Y8007835, to remove the lock core and obtain the number listed on...

  • Locking Trailer Hitch Pin for Bike Rack on 2 Inch Trailer Hitch Receiver
The Curt hitch you purchased is part # C13272 which is a 2 inch receiver so the pin hole is 5/8 inches. A good standard lock to fit is part # e98880. With that being said, a lot of bike racks have threaded hitch pins so you can't use just a standard locking pin. Their threads are usually specific to their own locks so you might need to purchase a specific lock for your specific bike rack. If you let me know which bike rack you have I can help you with a specific locking pin.

  • Can The HitchLock for Yakima Hitch Mounted Bike Racks Y07235 Be Keyed To An Existing Number?
Hi Ed! We do have a way to do what you need, but not with the Yakima HitchLock # Y07235 you found. What you will need is the Replacement Body for Yakima HitchLock 2007 and Newer # 8820048 and if you can tell me the needed key number, I can get you the correct cores and keys. This is the same thing as the # Y07235, it just doesn't include keys or cores. It will also fit the Replacement Hitch Bolt for Yakima # Y8890200. Let me know that key number and I will get you all squared away!

  • What Bike Rack do You Recommend for My 60-Pound E-Bike on My 2013 Ford Focus?
I have a great solution for you for a bike rack with a ramp. Unfortunately, Saris does not make a ramp for the Saris MTY Bike Rack SA4031. We also do not have a bike rack that has a ramp for a single bike. With that being said, we do have a 2-bike option that comes with a ramp. For that route, I recommend the Yakima OnRamp # Y96FR (for 1-1/4" hitches) or the # Y88DJ (for 2-inch hitches). The great thing about the OnRamp in addition to the included ramp is that you will not have to purchase...

It sounds like you are looking for a locking hitch pin lock for a Yakima hitch bike rack. If you can let me know what bike rack you have I can give you the exact hitch lock for your bike rack as recommended by Yakima. I can't recommend the use of the Kuat with a Yakima rack.

  • What Bike Rack do You Recommend for a 2010 Lexus GS 350 SUV?
For a heavier (50 pound) electric bike that is easy to load on your vehicle, I recommend a hitch rack. For the rack itself, a great option is the Yakima OnRamp Bike Rack for 2 Electric Bikes - 1-1/4" Hitches - Frame Mount # Y96FR. The OnRamp has a maximum per-bike weight capacity of 66-pounds per bike and includes an integrated ramp that allows for you to roll the bike onto the securing platform without lifting the bike off the ground. Hey William, congrats on your new bike rack. To use the 1-1/4" Yakima StageTwo Bike Rack with a 2" hitch, I recommend the Trailer Hitch Reducer 2" to 1-1/4" item # e63YR. This reducer sleeve will insert directly into your 2" receiver and allows you to use 1-1/4" accessories in 2" hitches without reducing the hitch's capacity.
