Question:
Which ball do you recommend? I’m looking at 2inch Hitch Ball - 1inch Diameter x 2-1/4inch Long Shank - Chrome - 12,000 lbs Item # 40038. I just don’t know if it’s long enough. Also I currently use a 5 1/4 inch class III mount which makes me in between the 4 and 6 inch mount. I it’s closer to 6 so that’s what I’m leaning towards but cant decide. Any input? Thanks.

The Curt 2" Hitch Ball # 40038 that you referenced will work perfectly with the Cushioned Ball Mount # AMSC6. This hitch ball features the needed 1" diameter shank and it's plenty long enough for a secure attachment.
If you had a level setup with your 5-1/4" drop ball mount this 6" drop # AMSC6 is the better choice over the 4" drop model. This is because the rear of your tow vehicle is going to sag/drop just a bit when the trailer is hooked up, which will bring you closer to that original drop dimension.
The 4" drop model, especially considering the rear sag upon hookup, would likely cause the trailer to ride low at the nose.
I have attached a couple short video reviews on these products below that you can also check out.
