What is the Threaded Hole on the Ball Retainer for on the Weigh Safe 180 Hitch 2-Ball Mount WS34MR?

Updated 03/01/2026 | Published 02/26/2026

Question:

I purchased the Weigh Safe 180 Hitch 2-Ball Mount for 3inch Hitch - 6inch /7inch Rise - 21K - Aluminum. When assembling it I noticed that the ball retainer bar that s from the rear to hold the two trailer balls in place has a small threaded hole. I was wondering what this was for and what would thread into the hole? I would guess it would be to aid in removal, but didnt see anything in the package that would thread in. Thanks!

Hey Matt, welcome back! You are correct. The threaded hole on the Weigh Safe 180 Hitch 2-Ball Mount for 3" Hitch item # WS34MR ball retainer, is to make removing the pin easier. You can insert a 1/4"-20 screw to get additional leverage to pull the pin out if it gets clogged up with debris.

What kind of trailer are you towing?
