Question:

I dont see any openings on the fork chop to a lock core. Is the locking fork skewer the only way to lock the front wheel holder, and is there no place to a lock core on the rear wheel holder? The rear wheel holder does come off easily and can be tossed inside the car, if not. I live in NYC so Im not comfortable leaving unlocked items on my car unattended

To add just 1 lock core for the Yakima ForkChop # Y02117 you can use part # Y8771-A144 for the lock core, part # Y8772-A144 for the key (or keys if you want more than one), and then you also need the Control Key # Y8007835 to install the lock core.

The locking skewer is designed to lock the front mount and the your bike to the roof rack. If you check out the picture I attached you can see where the lock core fits in the skewer and then where the skewer goes through to keep the front mount from being removed. Unfortunately there aren't provisions for locking the back cradle so if you're nervous about leaving it on unattended then taking it off and tossing it in the car is your best option. The thought behind only having the lock on the front mount is that ideally you'd have your bike installed which means that someone would have to unstrap your bike to remove the rear cradle. Yes it can be done but that would mean they only have half of the bike rack. If you eventually want to upgrade to a bike rack that you might feel a little more comfortable leaving the rear clamp we have the Yakima ForkLift # Y02098 which is essentially the same thing as the ForkChop but it has a rail that connects the front and rear mount points. Technically the rear mount could be removed but it isn't nearly as obvious and looks like a less fruitful option since it's all connected together.
