According to the instructions which I have linked for you, you will need to trim the rear fascia on the 2014 Jeep Patriot in order to install Curt trailer hitch # C13081. The trimming that is needed at the very bottom center of the rear fascia is approximately 2-9/16 inches tall by 2-5/8 inches wide. I have also included a picture showing the trim area.
If you plan on doing some towing I recommend the etrailer ball mount kit # EBMK4. It comes with a ball mount, interchangeable ball set, hitch pin with clip, and a storage bag. For trailer wiring use # C59236.
