The reduced turning clearance is the biggest issue to address when looking to use and adapter for gooseneck to 5th wheel king pin. Some trailers are designed with a rounded front end to account for some of that turning clearance issue, but many are not. If you want to use an adapter, I recommend using an offset adapter like the Convert-A-Ball Cushioned 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Adapter w/ Offset # CAB-C5GX1216 or the Ranch Hitch Universal 5th-Wheel-to-Gooseneck Coupler Adapter w/8" Offset for Short-Bed Trucks # AM3139.

The # CAB-C5GX1216 will give you a 7-1/2 inch offset and the # AM3139 will give you 8 inches. Most sliding trailer hitches for 5th wheel trailers will give you 10-14 inches of travel so they will still offer more turning clearance.

Some adapters like the Curt X5 # C16210, # 16310, or # C16220 will allow you to use a sliding hitch instead.
