Is 8 inches From Bottom of Weight Distribution System to Ground Enough Clearance
Updated 04/08/2019 | Published 04/06/2019 >
Question:
I recently purchased this shank in order to achieve a 3-1/2” drop, which is what I need for my trailer. At this height, the bottom of the shank sits approximately 8” off the ground. I now drag the shank on the ground when I back out of my driveway, unless I cut it really sharp, at an angle. Is this height safe for a road trip?

Expert Reply:
Eight inches from the ground to the bottom of your weight distribution shank would be fine for most situations but like you've experienced turning into inclined driveways can cause it to drag. Your trailer must sit pretty low to call for your shank setup to sit that low. It might be worth looking into raising your trailer suspension so that your shank settings could be a bit higher.
