Ignition and Shifting Procedure for Towing a 2014 Honda CR-V Behind an RV

Question:

After going through the process of setting up my 2014 Honda CRV to tow going through the gears going from drive to neutral as I’ve done before, If I turn the key off to go eat dinner and come back and my battery is dead will the transmission remember that it is in a position to tow or does the car need to be started and go through the gears again

On your 2014 Honda CR-V, when your remove the key you will need to go through the entire process again. I've attached the photo of the owners manual page to assist. This will help you to circulate the fluids and allow the vehicle to be towed without damage. Failing to follow the procedure completely could cause damage to your transmission and cause a battery drain.

I recommend using the Roadmaster FuseMaster Fuse Bypass Switch for Towed Vehicle - (2) 20-Amp ATM Mini-Fuses # RM76512 which will allow you to simply flip a switch instead of installing or pulling a fuse. This will save you time and frustration each time you tow.

Pulling the fuse or flipping the switch if you have the bypass is the final step when preparing your vehicle for towing and installing or flipping the switch is the first step when returning your vehicle to regular mode to release your key to prevent any issues.

If you already have the complete flat towing system, then you will simply follow the procedure outlined at every stop that you desire to remove your key.
