Should I Switch Out My CRE3000 Equalizer for the CRE4000 Equalizers? How are the CRE4000's Better?

Question:

I have a 2023 gd imagine 2500rl. Ive measured for using the cre3000 35 suspensionupgrade. Ive noticed theres a 4000 model now. Would that work for my model or even be needed? My axles are 4400 lbs.

Hello Jay,

So, the good news is that yes, the CRE4000 # MR29DR can work with your 2023 Grand Design Imagine 2500RL. It’s built for tandem axle setups with axle ratings from 3,500 to 7,000 lbs, just like the CRE3000. As long as your axle spacing is the standard 35 inches (which it usually is on the 2500RL), it will fit great!

Where the CRE4000 really stands out is in performance. It gives you an extra inch of vertical travel (4 inches total vs. 3 inches on the CRE3000), and it includes a built-in steel crossmember that adds stability and helps absorb more of the bumps and shocks from the road. If you often travel on rougher roads, carry heavier loads, or just want a smoother, quieter ride, the CRE4000 is definitely a nice upgrade.

That said, if your current CRE3000 is holding up well and you're mostly on smooth highways, you might not need the CRE4000. But it’s a solid improvement in comfort and durability, more of a “nice-to-have” than a “must-have,” unless you’re seeing issues or want the best possible towing experience.

So do you think you will go with the upgraded ones, or stick with your current set-up?

I'll probably get the 4000 then. Is it the same wet bolt kit Id need even for the 3000 kit?

@Jay Yes, it will be the same wet bolt kit. If you don't have the upgraded shackle straps, I recommend pairing the CRE4000 # MR29DR with the MORryde Suspension Upgrade Kit for Tandem Axle Trailers - 2-1/4" Long Shackle Straps # MR46ZR.

@KateF. Will it lift the trailer at all ride height wise?

@Jay No, the CRE 4000 are not going to lift your ride height. If you are looking for more clearance you could go with the Dexter Trailer Springs Over-Under Conversion Kit # K71-385-00 which will put your leaf springs on top of you axles. This will give you about 3-4" lift. I attached a great video that Kevin did explaining how it works.
