Question:
Do you need a stabilizing strap for a cargo carrier. If so, where would you attach it on a toyota prius?

Expert Reply:
CURT Class I, II, and some Class III trailer hitches do require the use of stabilizing strap # 18050 on all non-trailer loads to be in compliance with the CURT warranty. A non-trailer load would include a cargo carrier, so you would need to use the strap.
One end of the strap would be secured to the cargo carrier, the other end has a rubber coated hook. This hook can be placed in the gap between the trunk lid or hatch and the body of the vehicle on a Toyota Prius. The purpose of the strap is to reduce the stress on the hitch.
I have included a link to the installation details and a video showing a typical installation for CURT trailer hitch # 11468.
