Hitch looks very heavy duty compared to the last car hitch I put on.
I have not put on hitch yet and won't have time till Thursday after work.
Thank you. Jeff

Toyota Prius

fit like a charm, no problemsI had read that with some hitches you had to re=route the exhaust pipe on the prius so that the exhaust would not melt the plastic trim.

Not a problem with this product. Simple to install.

by:

Installed easily and solidly built. Required slight modification of a plastic shroud on the drivers side. From start to finish was under an hour.

by:

Excellent product, ships quickly, very easy to install on the vehicle, attached my 4 bike carrier into the receiver and went for a ride, works perfectly!

by:

I found the hitch was very rugged and well made. The only complaint I had was the spacing side to side of the mounting holes, they were off by about 1/8" to 1/4". I was able to get it bolted on the car but not without a bit of persuasion. It does in fact show that in the installation video.
Shipping was very good, ordered on Sunday and it was here Thursday.

I just installed this hitch myself and it went on as expected. Since I did it alone, I got one side bolted into the frame and then had to use a screwdriver to help align the holes on the other side of the hitch to the frame. Some installation videos suggested a 2x4 but I could not do that by myself, however, using the screwdriver to align the holes worked.

Super fast shipping, not sure if this is business as usual but I ordered this product on a Monday night and it was at my door Wednesday afternoon, wow!

Install took me about 90 minutes doing it completely by myself, so if you have help, you could probably trim 30 minutes off that time. Installing it without a lift or with a jack probably added some time too.

What took the longest by far lining up the back bolt on each side. I had to use the suggested board trick while having all the bolt completely loose on both sides, even with that, it was still a pain. On an 85 degree day, I almost gave up on it, but then picturing how much more cargo and stuff I can pull, I persevered.

If at all possible, use lift to install this item. Also, as another review said, you'll probably need to trim the plastic cover a bit towards the car along with what is suggested in the video, at least with my 2005 Prius.

by:

This is a great and well made hitch, and easy to install.

I'm giving it a 4 star, rather than 5 star, because the cotter pin that comes with it is impossible to securely fasten with the hairpin, because the angle of the hole in the cotter pin, is such that the hairpin won't fit through without hitting the back of the hitch, the round chain holes on the bottom, or the metal plate on top. It doesn't seem secure to me, because the only way I could get the hairpin in at all was to insert it facing up with the round side down. Even then, I couldn't get it in quite all the way for the hairpin to rest on the cotter pin.

by:

On the plus side, this is a pretty solid hitch. It should do the job at least as well as any other. On the minus side, this thing was an absolute nightmare to install. Curt must not use a proper jig to weld and drill because the holes were misaligned by something like 3/8 of an inch. It took me two hours and a good deal of brute force to get all four bolts in. I watched the etrailer installation video before my attempt and I did use the 2x4 trick. It helped to use a second shorter piece of wood to apply the load closer to the bolts, high on the flange.

Personally, I would tell a friend to try a different brand of hitch in hopes of an easier installation.

I am planning a trip to Acadia National Park this Summer and needed a 4-bike carrier for my Prius. After viewing the instructional video and reading reviews, I was convinced that the Curt hitch and Thule rack were exactly what I needed. Everything was just as easy as the video made it sound. I put the hitch and the rack on the car by myself in about an hour. I would recommend the product and this web site to anyone who asks.

by:

I placed the order on Monday and the hitch arrived on Wednesday…2 days of fasts shipping. It arrived very well packaged in this huge box.
The tutorial video was very helpful and easy. It literally took me 35 minutes to install with no problems. The screw holes aligned very well. Can't wait to use it on my next trip to our cabin in big bear. Thank you etrailer for everything. I highly recommend buying from etrailer there service is amazing.

2008 Toyota Prius

I have a 2008 Prius that's running strong. I love this car, but I wanted a more secure bike rake to transport my bikes. I can't believe how easy it was to find and install this tow hitch! I'm so grateful I didn't have to measure anything to retrofit it later. A friend helped me screw it on, and we were able to bend it with ease where needed. It's as sturdy as ever, and still looks great a year later.

by:

So - the holes didn't line up side-to-side - they were off by about 3/8". I thought the product was defective. I called etrailer tech support, even though it was around 7pm Montana time, although I was sure they would be closed. To my surprise, a very nice girl named Kim answered. She said this much misalignment was very common, and I should just try "whacking" it a bit with a hammer! This I did, and very first try the holes lined up and I was able to install it smoothly. The hitch seems well made, and works great on my prius with my Thule bike rack. So: if the holes don't line up exactly, don't be afraid to get western with it a bit. Overall, satisfied with the rack, and very satisfied with etrailer.

Perfect for our bike rack.

2013 Toyota Prius

March 2013 - '07 Toyota Prius Curt Hitch. This is my second Curt hitch from etrailer.com, and they are great products that hold up well even with the salt and sand in winter. The Prius hitch is very easy to install for a DIY'er. It takes about 45 minutes with only basic tools. The instructions are clear and the hitch lined up perfectly. This hitch is perfect for light duty or a bike rack, and is barely noticeable once installed. It is my opinion that the Curt hitch is worth the extra money as it is a very high quality product.

straight forward install. More parts of the car needing to be taken off then we thought.

by:
2005 Toyota Prius

Products seems very well-built and painted, I expect it will last for the life of the car, if not beyond. Only flaw on build is that manufacturer could have cleaned up weld splash before painting. E-Trailer could do a better job in packing item. Ends of hitch should be covered with padding (cardboard, etc) Sharp edges of heavy items will tend to blow through box. Arrived with minor scratches.
Hitch was very easy to attach, holes aligned perfectly making an install straight forward!

by:

Over all it was good, just had to open the bolt holes a little bit to the outside to match the hole pattern

by:
2005 Toyota Prius

Went together very well. Did some trimming to one undercarriage shield, and then trimmed it a bit more since the directions weren't quite on the mark, but easy enough with a die grinder.

2006 Toyota Prius

I had purchase another one that the receiver butted into the crossbar and it did not allow my bike carrier to engage into it as far as I wanted it to so that it would be in tighter to the bumper. This one the crossbar welds to each side of the receiver allowing my bike carrier to have more engagement or adjustment to get the bike carrier closer to the bumper of the vehicle. The bike carrier has absolutely no movement being able to engage into the receiver deeper.

So far the hitch receiver has held up beautifully! As far as I know, it fit onto my Prius with no problems (I had a mechanic install it, because I didn't have any way to raise my car).
A week after installing, I drove across the country with this and a bike rack attached, with no problems of any kind. I can't ask for anything else.

Great resources in video installation and thorough online description. I was able to select the exact product for my vehicle without having any additional questions. I took it to my local mechanic to install and it they said it was quick and easy to put on. Look forward to now having the option for a bike rack on my vehicle.

The trailer hitch has had no issues after a year of being on my Prius and continues to be a great way to store my bike rack. It’s been steady and secure through rain or shine. If any purchasing needs in the future, I would definitely do so through etrailer.

2006 Toyota Prius

Very satisfied with the Curt trailer hitch receiver on my 2006 Prius. Thanks to great instructions, especially the video, it was easy to install with no lift needed. The fascia fasteners on my car didn't quite match the video - 5 of the 6 fasteners were different from the others - but all were easy to remove and replace. Just returned from an 800 mile trip with 2 bikes on a new hitch rack. I used the stabilization strap and there was no bounce and very little side to side sway. Thanks etrailer!

  • Comparing Trailer Hitch Options for Carrying 2 Bike Rack on a 2006 Toyota Prius
Betweeen the Curt # C11468 and Draw-Tite # 24808 for your 2006 Toyota Prius, I recommend the Curt simply because we have found that they tend to have better welds and a thicker powder coat than other options on the market. All of this translates into a more durable hitch that you can rely on. While you can use an adapter like the Brophy # HTAD to carry a bike rack with a 2" shank, we typically advise against this for a few reasons. First of all it's more connection points so there are...

  • Will a 2012 Scion Curt Trailer Hitch Fit a 2008 Toyota Prius
Hey Vince! I have an '09 Prius so I get the appeal of the ground clearance and cost savings of the Curt # C12490 from your previous vehicle, but this hitch has a different profile and different bolt hole pattern to the Curt # C11468 that fits your '08 Prius so they aren't interchangeable. You can try to modify the bolt holes from your old hitch to fit your Prius, but one of the key parts of the Prius specific hitch is the raised part of the crossbeam that keeps the exhaust from constantly...

  • Curt 18110 compared to 18140
First lets talk about a hitch for your 2007 Toyota Prius, I would recommend the Draw Tite hitch part # 24808. The reason for this is that Curt recommends you use a stabilizer strap like part # 18050 when you use a non-supported load on the hitch like a cargo carrier. Draw Tite doesn't have that requirement so I think you would be happier with the # 24808. Now the differences between the Curt Cargo Carriers part # C18110 and the # C18145 are pretty substantial. I personally like the # C18110...
