Recommended Trailer Hitch and 2-Bike Rack for a 2010 Ford Mustang

Published 04/02/2018

Question:

For your 2010 Ford Mustang, I recommend using the Curt Trailer Hitch Receiver part # C11048 which is a Class I hitch with a 1-1/4" receiver tube opening. As long as you do not have the GT/CS, California Special, Shelby GT, or GT500 edition then this hitch will work well for you. It is currently the only option we have for this vehicle. In order to maintain the lifetime warranty, you will need to use part # 18050 for all non-towing applications like a bike rack. Then for a bike rack, I recommend the Thule Doubletrack Pro XT Bike Rack part # TH92BJ. The Doubletrack is a very popular bike rack with padded arms to protect the bikes frame, adjustable wheels cradles for fitment on multiple different wheelbases, and a folding feature while not in use. It also comes with locks for both the rack and vehicle as well as being made right here in the U.S.A. with a lifetime warranty. I have attached an install video on the hitch. Pretty much any local mechanic should be able to install the hitch rather easily but if you have any RV service centers in your area then that would be preferred.

Absolutely, for a more cost effective bike rack I recommend using the Swagman XC part # S64650 for a platform style rack or the Thule Camber 2 # TH9058 for a hanging style rack. In general, a platform style rack will be better to accommodate women's or children's alternative frame bikes. The hanging rack can still accommodate these types of bikes but an adapter bar like part # TH982XT would be required to keep the bikes level. I have attached a review video of each rack for you to take a better look at as well.
