How to Install a Trailer Hitch on a 2010 Ford Mustang

Today on this 2010 Ford Mustang, were going to install part number c11048 form Curt. Next well give you some measurements to help you out in selecting some accessories especially a bicycle rack or a cargo carrier. On top of the receiver opening down to the ground were looking at a distance of 11-1/4 inches and from the center of the hitch pin hole to the edge of the bumper is about 4-1/4 inches. Now well go ahead and show you how the hitch is installed, first thing you do is go ahead and loosen up the muffler, the muffler mount on the very back well remove and also remove one forward of the muffler. To make things a little easier to install were actually going to detach the muffler while we install the hitch. Now well go ahead and show you where the hitch installs on the vehicle.

With the exhaust removed we go ahead and fish wire some hardware inside the frame, well install a shorter 7/16 by 1 inch carriage bolts and spacers through access hole shown here and out to the hole were going to use to fasten to the hitch located here. Well do this on both sides of the car. At this point we can go ahead put the hitch into position, which you are going to have an extra set of hands to help do this and then fasten them to a couple of flange hex nuts. With the hitch loosened and positioned, well go ahead and install the rest of the hardware using the same access hole how well pull the hitch through the holes that are existing on the side of the frame on the vertical side, there will be two bolts on each side of the hitch. With all the hardware installed for the hitch, now I have to make a new attachment for exhaust hanger at the very end of the exhaust.

Well fish wire 3/8 by 2 inch carriage bolt and a spacer through the access hole and through the side of the frame. We try to install the block, there was just not enough clearance, so we went ahead and used a rotary tool to go ahead and clean out, so we can get our block into place. Now well pull our bolt through, well leave the wire pull on, so well use that to help guide our muffler hanger when we reinstall the exhaust. At this point we can go ahead and start reinstalling the exhaust; well put a block on top of the bolt and then install the exhaust hanger. At this point we can go ahead and tighten down all the bolts and torque them down as specified in the instructions.

With all the bolts torqued down as specified in the instructions we can reinstall our exhaust. That will finish it for our install, part number of c11048 from Curt on our 2010 Ford Mustang.
