To flat tow your 2005 GMC Envoy, you are going to need a Base Plate Kit # BX1709, a Tow Bar # BX7380, a vehicle tow bar brake system # SM99251, and vehicle tow bar wiring # RM-15247. You may also need a high/low hitch adapter similar # BX88130.
For a Base plate Kit I recommend the Blue Ox Base Plate Kit # BX1709. This base plate kit is custom made to fit your vehicle. All the necessary hardware is included with this kit. This base plate is pretty easy to install if you are handy with basic tools when following the instructions. Bare in mind, the bumper fascia must be removed to install this base plate kit. However, Blue Ox has step by step photos in the instructions I attached which makes it easy to do yourself.
For a tow bar, I recommend the Blue Ox Alpha Tow Bar # BX7365. The Alpha comes with safety cables so you will just need to add lighting and a supplemental braking system to complete the set up. I attached a review video of this tow bar you may want to check out.
Most states require a supplemental braking system on the vehicle being flat towed. I recommend the SMI Stay-In-Play DUO Supplemental Braking System # SM99251. I recommend this system because it has a one-time set up and there is no need to remove nor activate each time you tow. I attached an installation video of this system on a Ford Explorer. While it will not be the exact same for your vehicle, you can get an idea of how this will install on your 2005 GMC Envoy. I also attached a review video you may want to check out.
Lastly, to wire your RV to your vehicle's brake lights, you will need the Roadmaster Diode 7-Wire to 6-Wire Flexco-Coil Wiring Kit # RM-15247. This kit allows you to use your vehicle’s tail lights and wiring systems while preventing feedback from your RV.
