Two of Four Trailer Drums are Getting Too Hot to Touch

Left drums are extremely hot cant touch after 20 min trip at 60mph no load. Right side are cool. I had the same problem before I just changed all 4 brake backing plates. New everything except drums, they seemed ok. Bearings and brakes set to dexter specs and trailed pulls smooth. When I installed the brakes, with the tires on and trailer jacked up, all electical seemed fine. Engaging, releasing, and wheels spinning correctly. This same issue happened to one of the new magnets I just installed. When I pulled it off it looked like the magnet inards had melted out. Wiring on trailer brakes messed up? Bad ground? I thought it was just a defective magnet since the other 3 were working..... and now two are super hot! Any advice before I just run new wiring?

It sounds like a short at the brakes or brake wiring on the trailer. You could find and repair the damaged or pinched wire or run new wiring. If the current wiring runs inside of the axle(s) then I would just go ahead and run new wiring.
Brakes on a 12K axle are pretty big so you could use 10 gauge wire # 10-1-1 or # 10-2-1, each sold by the foot. Otherwise 12 gauge wire # 12-1-1 could be used.
When grounding magnets make sure the grounds are attached to clean, corrosion-free bare metal surfaces.
