I want to protect wire etc from accidental bumping & damage. What would you recommend?

Since you said you want to re-wire your entire trailer I recommend the Optronics Submersible Trailer Light Kit, part # TL5RK.

This kit comes with 2 stud-mount lights, 2 amber side marker and clearance lights, a license plate bracket, and a 25 ft wiring harness with a 4-way connector. The mounting hardware is also included with this kit.

I would recommend wire loom, part # 459075-1. This loom is 1/2 inch diameter and is sold by the foot. It would protect the wiring on your trailer from debris and moisture and help protect it from damage.
