If you are looking for a power source for your brake controller, I do not recommend using a fuse tap. The brake controller's power needs to be ran through an appropriately sized circuit breaker and to the battery post. The installation instructions will tell you what size circuit breaker to use, usually a 30-amp breaker is sufficient for brake controllers.
If you are looking for a way to connect to a stoplight wire, you could use a fuse tap for that. The stoplight wire would only draw a signal, not amperage. You would want to be careful when choosing the fuse to tap into for the stoplight wire. Something like the upper brake light on the rear hatch, a light that only lights up when the brake is depressed, would be an option.
