Troubleshooting 7-Way Install on a 2012 Nissan Xterra
Updated 06/23/2015 | Published 06/22/2015 >
Question:
Hi I bought the C55226 tow package and installed it on my Xterra 2012 SV. All the connector was available and I added the relays that was part of the package. I followed the installation video. I tried to connect my RV trailer and nothing happened. I tried to test the turning light and no tension. From the ground of the plug bottom left I wasnt able to find any 12V. I was already having a 4 way connectors that have been added after I bought my Xterra. This 4 way connector seem to be hard wire. I used the ground from the 4 way connector and the only pin on the 7 way connector that gave me 12 V was the bottom right. I call the Nissan dealer where I bought my Xterra and told me that I should have the tow package because of the SV model but he was not able to confirm it to me even with the VIN number. I need my trailer in 2 weeks so I would like to solve that issue ASP. Could you help me to find my problem

Expert Reply:
The ground circuit of a 7-way will not have 12 volts of power.
When installing the # C56226 there would be no need to use a ground wire from a previously installed 4-way. It sounds like you may have installed the harness incorrectly as everything that this connector uses for installation is with a connector. There would be no hardwiring required or any reason to run a ground wire to it.
The best recommendation I can make would be to compare the install instructions for this product to how you installed it to make sure you installed it properly.
