This is a common issue on certain Nissan vehicles. You are likely missing a relay for the trailer running lights in the tow package wiring on the Frontier or the relay could have gone bad. Use the owners manual to find the relay and fuse locations related to the tow package wiring. The running light relay can be installed or replaced with one if the blue relays from the Curt Relay Kit # C57000.
One likely place for the relay is behind the passenger side kick panel. There could be a harness with 3 relays attached to it.
