How Thick Are Electric Brake Shoe Pads and When Should They be Replaced

What is the new thickness of the actual lining and at what measurement is it considered time to replace? Dont want to replace unnecessarily for short trips but also dont to go farther ignorantly thinking I have 50 lining left. 2010 Airstream 19foot Victorinox

On Dexter 12" Nev-R-Adjust Electric Brake Assembly # 23-458 the shoe pad thickness is 3/16 of an inch. Dexter says that you should replace the shoes if the material gets down to 1/16 of an inch thick or less.

Hey Art, we measured the pad thickness of the Dexter brake assemblies part #23-465 and we found they are 3/16 of an inch.

The pad thickness of the Dexter 7k brake shoes part #K71-676 is 3/16 of an inch and they should be replaced when they get down to 1/16 of a inch.

You would know to replace brake shoes the same way you would know with a vehicle. If performance is suffering and adjusting the brakes does not help and there are no other issues causing the poor performance it is probably time to change the brake…

That number is probably 4 mm which that amount is acceptable. Normally trailer brake thicknesses are done by inch though. 3/16 of an inch is what they are new and then they should get replaced at 1/16 of an inch.
