Video Transcript for TruRyde Trailer Suspension TRSS238 Review

Today we're going to be taking a look at this spring seat for typical 3,500 pound round trailer axles with a 2 3/8" diameter. The spring seat is a necessary component of your trailer suspension system when mounted with a 1 3/4" or 2" wide leaf spring. It adds extra support and provides proper positioning for the axle. It's made from a durable steel construction. It would weld onto a 2 3/8" diameter axle which is a typical 3,500 pound axle. It sits on top of a 1 3/4" or 2" side leaf spring. The cutout on the flat side would surround the raised knob on the leaf spring to prevent turning in or shifting.

It simply provides that extra support and secure positioning for the trailer axle. Please note that two spring seats are required for each axle. A few measurements to go over with you real quick starting with the overall length. It's going to give us a measurement of 4" long. Overall width, it's going to measure about 1 7/8" wide. Height is about 1 1/4" tall, and this opening right here of this rounded area at the widest point, that's going to give us a measurement of about 2 1/8".

That's going to do it for today's look at the spring seat for typical 3,500 pound round trailer axles with a 2 3/8" diameter.

  • How To Choose Correct 3,500 Lb Axle for Slipper Spring Setup
In order to determine which axle is correct for your trailer we need to find out what your hub face (HF) and spring center (SC) measurements are. If you take a look at the photo I have attached for you that should then help with obtaining the above two measurements. The most important thing we need to look for is the hub face as the spring center can then be moved (within a range) if we need to. I have attached a list of the 3,500 lb axles we offer in the varying hub face and spring center...

  • Can Spring Seats Be Moved On A Trailer Axle Tube

  • Is There an Over-Under Kit for a 2-3/4" Diameter Mobile Home Axle?
Unfortunately Hans, we do not have an over under kit specific to mobile home axles as they were designed to be used to get the mobile home to where it needs to be and thrown away after they were done. Several people saw these as a cheap opportunity to get an axle and make home made trailers. But none of the trailer manufacturers provide support parts for them. You're only real option would be to weld on some new spring seats but again as it is an uncommon diameter tube we do not have an...

  • Replacement Axle for LoadRite Boat Trailer
I looked up the LoadRite parts and they have torsion axles and traditional spring axles. If you have a trailer that has the springs centered at 58 inches on center and is 1-1/2 inches square, then the axle is a 2,000 lb axle and you would use the Dexter Trailer Axle Beam with Standard Spindles - 72" Long - 2,000 lbs # T20BTR-7258 with hardware # APUBR-10. If you have different axle, give me those measurements and I'll try to assist by comparing parts. Overall length, style of springs...

  • Are There 3,500 lb Axles With 89 Inch Hub Face to Hub Face Measurement Without Spring Seats
Hi there Chad; there are actually not any 3,500 lb axles with an 89 inch hub face to hub face measurement that does not have spring seats welded on. The ones we offer do have the spring seats welded on at 74 inches apart. That said, if you need spring seats at a measurement different than the 74 inch spacing you can have new ones welded on with the Spring Seat # TRSS238. We don't have two axle kits with suspension but there are a couple options for 89 inch, 3,500 lb axles with hub and...

  • Replacement 3,500 lbs Axle w/ a 86-1/2" Hub Face
Hey Bob, thanks for the information. It looks like you have a 3,500 lbs axle with a 86.5" hub face and a 68.5" spring seat. The only axle I have with a 86.5" hub face is the 5,200 lbs Capacity Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles item # e45GR. It only works with 6 on 5-1/2 lug pattern hubs though like item # AKHD-655-6-EZ-K. The closest 3,500 lbs axle I have to a 86.5" hub face measurement is the 89" Dexter Trailer Axle Beam item # T3584F-8974. This axle is going to stick out an...

  • Replacement 3,500 lb Axle With 4" Drop
Hi Robert; you will need your hub face measurement to find the right replacement axle. See the video attached below which explains how to measure. We have the 89" # e53GR or 95" # e83GR with the 4" drop. Since your spring center measurement is shorter you would also have to cut off the spring seats and weld on # TRSS238 to match what you have now. We don't have an option that comes with 5 on 5-1/2 hubs. However, you can add the Easy Grease Trailer Hub and Drum Assembly for 3.5K Axles #...

  • Can Underslung Trailer Axle be Installed as Overslung
Hey Shane, so the axles we offer like the part # e43SR are designed to be underslung. That means the spring perch is on top of the axle tube. If trailer axles were totally straight this wouldn't be a problem as you could just flip the axle over but they are designed with a bow in them that faces down so if you were to flip the axle the alignment would be way off. So to use this axle in an overslung configuration you'd need to weld on new spring seats on the other side of the axle like with...

Hey Dave, thanks for all the information. Sounds like you're really in a box here. You're going to have to move the spring seats regardless if you replace the axle because none of ours are in the same 70" position. To get more clearance though for a taller tire, I am curious are your axles currently mounted below your springs or above them? • Availability Of Over-Under Kit Or Lift Kit For Dexter 2,200 lb Axle
Hello Tyler, thanks for reaching out. The 2,200 lb axles are generally a 1-3/4" tube diameter and I am sorry to say we do not offer an over-under kit for this. At this time we only offer kits for 2-3/8" diameter # K71-384-00 and 3" diameter # K71-385-00 axles. We do offer a lift kit that can be used with really any double eye leaf spring suspension, the Correct Track Trailer Alignment and Lift Kit # LC87120. This provides 1-1/4" of lift. Or if you get two kits, it can do 2-1/4" of lift.

  • 3,500LB Trailer Axle With 5 on 4-1/2" Bolt Pattern & 4" Drop With Electric Brakes 81" Spring Center
Based on your hubs it sounds like you have a 3,500lb axle since you have the 5 on 4-1/2" bolt pattern. It sounds like the Trailer Axle # e45SR is the size you are needing. This has a hub face spread of 95" and the spring seats are 80" on center. These can be removed and new Seats # TRSS238 welded on to the 81" measurement you need which will prevent the additional cost and wait if special ordering an axle.

We have two options that will be very close to your specification, options that very well may work for you, but will not be an exact match. The first option is the etrailer Trailer Axle Beam # e95GR. This has the 3.5K capacity 4" drop and 95" hub face that you are looking for. The spring center on this axle is 79-1/4". We can't order custom axles, but we do offer a Dexter # 7359765-EB off-the-shelf axle that's very similar, the only difference is that the leaf spring seat center to center distances don't match exactly. • How to Find Replacement Axle for Hurricane HUR 2178 Boat Trailer
Finding a replacement axle will require measuring your current axle. Specifically, the hub face to hub face measurement. I would say based on the GVWR it is a 3,500 lb axle. It could possibly be a 3,000 lb axle depending on what they figured for tongue weight, but that would be obsolete so you're looking at 3,500 lbs either way. We only have two length options for 3,500 lb axles so I'll list them below. If you switch from a 3k axle you will also need new hubs. You can choose from the following:...

The P-11 on your Dexter axle indicates the plant number it was manufactured at. If you can find a serial number on your axle tag that could be used to identify the axle through Dexter. If not then there are other ways to find a replacement axle. If you have the capacity of the axle listed on the axle tag that is a good place to start. A # L68149 inner and outer bearing is not a standard combination. Your # 010-180-00 is also not a very common grease seal. Unfortunately, there are no replacement hubs available that match this combination. The first thing I would do is verify that they are in fact # L68149 bearings. Assuming that is correct, since there are no replacement hubs available the best...

I reached out to my contact at Dexter for more information on this axle. I was told that the axle tag is too old, and they no longer have information available on these axles. I very well may have an axle that will replace yours. I would need to confirm a few specs with you first. Since the hub-face and spring-center measurements can vary from trailer to trailer and yours are fairly close to one that we carry (we only carry a few of the very popular options) I wouldn't say that's abnormal.
