Question:
Have an issue with an old ShorLandr dual axle pontoon trailer- I have a bad 8 1/2 x 2 1/4 hub drum hydraulic surge drum brakes that is no longer available anywhere that I can find....so looking for advice on a major hub/drum/wheel revamp/replacement and maybe the entire axle as well. Current axle has: - 84 spindles, one side has slightly scarred bearing surface from the bad hub but MAY be suitable to reuse -hub to hub face dim = 89 -spring center to center = 70 -spindle end to end dim = 94 -5 lugs on 4 1/2 bolt circle -205/65-10 tires with rims that are likely too small to accommodate bigger brakes. - Only have 12 vertical distance from unloaded axle spindle up to frame so not sure if any of your tires will fit So bare minimum Ill need 2 new hub/drums with all new 10 ? surge brakes, and rims and tires to match, maybe w/ new axle See lots of choices w/ 89 hub face dim but all of your spring centers are listed as 74... -Would love to hear your thoughts/ideas.. Many thanks

Hey Dave, thanks for all the information. Sounds like you're really in a box here. You're going to have to move the spring seats regardless if you replace the axle because none of ours are in the same 70" position. To get more clearance though for a taller tire, I am curious are your axles currently mounted below your springs or above them?
If you replaced your axles with two of the Trailer Axle Beam with Easy Grease Spindles item # e38GR and mounted them below your springs you would gain enough clearance to use the Karrier ST175/80R13 Radial Trailer Tire with 13" Galvanized Wheel - 5 on 4-1/2 - Load Range D item # AM31994. A 13" wheel is the smallest option to work with a set of 10" brakes and a ST175/80R13 tire measures exactly 24.0" in diameter. You will need two of the Spring Seat for 2-3/8" Diameter Axles item # TRSS238 for each axle.
Here are the rest of the parts you'll need for the hubs and brakes, they're each sold individually:
etrailer Hub and Drum Assembly - 3,500-lb Axles - 10" Diameter - 5 on 4-1/2 - Galvanized item # AKHD-545-35-G-K
Right Hand - Hydraulic Trailer Brake - Uni-Servo - Dacromet - 10" - Right Hand - 3,500 lbs item # AKUBRK-35R-D
Left Hand - Hydraulic Trailer Brake - Uni-Servo - Dacromet - 10" - 3,500 lbs item # AKUBRK-35L-D
You can add the information above the axle orientation and any other questions you have where it says Reply to Jerred H and I'll be happy to answer them.

Hey Dave, did you manage to sort out the axle and brake setup for your trailer? I noticed you went with the Karrier tire and wheel combo, so I'm curious if the solution worked out for you. Let me know how it went, as it could really help others facing similar challenges.
