Video Transcript for Review of Dexter Brake Actuator - T4395100

Hi everyone. Steven here with etrailer.com. Today we're looking together at a replacement master cylinder assembly, specifically for the Dexter Model 60 and the Arrow 7,500 brake actuators for drum brakes. Now folks, as I just mentioned, the two models, this works for the Dexter model 60 and the Arrow 7,500. Drum brakes only, you're gonna get the master cylinder. You've already got the gasket, the top plate, the screw on caps included.

All the bolts here wouldn't need to be tightened down. They're just kinda loosely fit there. And then you'll obviously, you'll put your brake fluid in there and then your cap will just go back on obviously, and just gotta get lined up here. There we go. And then you've got your brake line connector here, and then you've got the boot over here for the rod assembly and everything.

So very easy direct replacement part to work, again, for those Dexter Model 60 and Arrow 7,500. Now it does come with the lock washer, like I said, those kind of things. The gasket, all the bolts and everything you need. So what you see is what you're getting. Very nice, well made product.

This again is a replacement master cylinder assembly. I'm Steven, thanks for watching.

Had to replace the brakes on a boat trailer. After finding etrailer, it became an easy decision that and more cost effective to replace the assemblies instead of pads and cylinders individually.

After trying to bleed the system and having trouble, etrailer had the master cylinder in stock and got it to me in no time at all to complete the repairs needed.

by:

This fit my Trailer Aluminum car trailer fine, and is an exact replacement to the Titan 60. I really only needed a rebuild kit, but seems no such kit is available for this master cylinder.

I don't like to give bad reviews, but I want to share so others don't experience what I did. I don't know what happened on this one on my car hauler flat bed trailer. I installed it and filled it with brake fluid, and bled the lines and pressure tested and pulled it around town for a test run, all was good. By the time I took a trip with my trailer one year later in August, 2025, all of the fluid was gone, no signs of fluid leaks anywhere on the trailer frame or concrete below it, maybe it evaporated in the TX heat? It was rusted inside, I refilled it as is and had to take my trip. Within 200 miles, one of the brakes locked up and was over heating the hub and was smoking hot, we were lucky catch it. I loosened the line at the back of the master cylinder, and the fluid released in the line and the brake immediately released, I'm sure the master cylinder was plugged. I completed the remaining 1,200 miles of the trip without trailer brakes. I am frustrated that a new unit would loosed its fluid and rust with barely any use of the system. And of

I am sorry to hear about your experience with this master cylinder. I am not sure exactly what caused that but I do know if a trailer sits for a long period of time is can rust or corrode. There is a chance the original master cylinder was faulty, or there was a damaged wheel cylinder inside the brake drum itself. Have you used it at all since your trip?

@NickS I can understand the rust issue, but not how the brake fluid just vaporized. It was hot in TX over the last year, and maybe that played a factor (the trailer will be in a much cooler place going forward). It was on a concrete drive and no sign of a single drop of oil. Once dry it rusted, because the oil is acidic. I refilled and bled clean to all wheels, I am sure now the rust just broke free on the trip and plugged the master cylinder orifices. All of the brakes were relatively new, only had approximately 1500 to 2000 miles on them. I have not taken the wheel/brake that was stuck apart, just hasn't been my highest priority. However, remember I released the pressure by disconnecting behind the MC and the wheel released as it should. Given the other 3 wheel were not hot I can see how it may be the wheel cylinder. But I expect to do that soon since I will need to pass and inspection to register it in a new location. If you know of a good way to clean the master cylinder before I reconnect and refill it, please let me know. If not possible I may have to order an new one or convert the whole trailer over to electric brakes which going to be expensive. If there are any option for a discounted exchange please let me know that as well.

@Dm The way we usually clean the master cylinder is just by removing it to access the inside, using brake clearer to spray inside and just a clean rag to wipe it down. Once dry you'll just refill it with fluid and bleed the system again.

by:

Working great

by:

Good product at a good price. Got it installed and the system bled (the old brake fluid looked like thin mud coming out!) and everything works well. Install was easy, with the exception that the old master cylinder that I removed looks to have been just a hair shorter than this one that I got from etrailer. The new one was a tiny bit too tall for it to slide in the back of the actuator. I ended up removing the actuator from the tongue of the trailer to get the master cylinder bolted onto it. With the four master cylinder bolts torqued down it fit fine and the actuator easily went back into place on the tongue.

I do wish it had a metal cap like the old one that it replaced, but that is not a huge deal. I hope the plastic one holds up.

The plastic master cylinder cap seems to leak. Other than that, its fine.

etrailer is always on their "A" game. Anytime I order it gets to me right away. Thanks etrailer!

by:

don't really know yet still renovating the boat to make floatable so haven't pulled yet

by:

Ordered replacement master cylinder for my 2000 Eagle trailer. Eagle trailer is no longer in business but Etrailer was able to provide what I needed. Arrived on schedule and worked perfectly.

by:

It is working like it should, (1998 boat trailer) only time will tell so ask me in 10 years,
quick delivery just a little spendy but I needed the part sooner rather than later, have purchased a lot of parts over the years from e-trailer and never had any problems with the products,

by:

Quick delivery, excellent customer service and great prices, as usual.

When I installed the Brake Fluid Master Cylinder reservoir on the coupler. It was a bit oversized in height. Finally was able to bolt on. Then when I was screwing in the four top bolts to hold the reservoir in place, one of the bolts snapped off in the housing. It will have to be extruded somehow.

Brake lines - no problem.

Dale

by:

Exactly what I needed, sent promptly and without hassle!

It did arrive missing one screw/washer, unfortunately, but since I was changing out the old assembly, I had the used screws and it was not an issue.

I will definitely be using etrailer again.
