Firestone Coil-Rite Air Spring Basics

Firestone Coil-Rite springs fit inside your existing rear coil springs to maximize the effectiveness of your suspension system. The added cushion provided by the air springs allows your vehicle to better handle a heavy load or trailer. Hauling heavy loads or towing a heavy trailer can make the rear of your vehicle sag and the front end rise. This puts more strain on your rear axle and reduces contact between your front tires and the road, causing problems with braking, steering control and traction. By adding air springs to your rear suspension, you can help to level your vehicle for more effective braking and handling under heavy loading or when you encounter adverse road conditions. The air springs also help to level your headlight beams and reduce wear on your tires.

Firestone Coil-Rite airline installation

Adjustable Air Pressure

The air pressure in your Coil-Rite springs can be adjusted manually, side to side, to compensate for off-center loads. A centered load improves the stability of your vehicle by reducing body roll. The air springs will also help to absorb road shock and soften contact between your axle and frame. This prevents bottoming out, thus improving ride comfort. Route the air line tubing for the springs to your vehicle's bumper to provide easy access to the manual inflation valves.

Firestone Coil-Rite air spring components

Air Spring Construction

Coil-Rite springs are constructed of durable, elastic polyurethane to ensure years of service. Single replacement springs (sold separately) are available for maintenance to an existing Coil-Rite kit.

Air Spring Installation

The Coil-Rite springs install inside your existing coil springs. The custom-fit springs attach to your vehicle's spring seats.

I can only give this 3 stars because one of the bags only holds air for about 1-2 days. The other bag stays filled for months. When they are both filled it gives my Pathfinder about 1" of extra lift while towing our travel trailer. So, the trip to the campground is fine but then I have to find an air pump for the trip home or tow with it lower. If they would both stay filled I would give them a 5 star rating. I contacted etrailer support and was told that I had to contact Firestone for warranty support. I have emailed (can't find a phone number on their web site) them twice with no reply.

Thanks for reaching back out about this. I have gone ahead and sent you an email with some more contact information for Firestone.

Worked well, but required drilling a hole to accommodate the stem, despite an indication it was compatible. One bladder then failed after about a year, due to a manufacturing defect. Firestone promptly sent a replacement, but it was a hassle to remove and re-install a new one.

by:

Very simple design for preventing rear sag when weight is loaded on the tongue. Installation was ok, with the most difficult part being actually getting bags inside the coils. Look to online for help as the instructions are generic and not great. Would recommend getting the t-splitter 1/4 size to get a balanced ride. Only complaintS are the output valve points downward which then Puts your airline closer to the ground than comfortable When driving.

by:

Bought this for our Toyota Sienna, it helped a bit but one side leaks and has to be aired up anytime we have a full load.

Comments
I would check your air lines. Make sure that your connection points are flat and level with no abrasions. Get a spray bottle with soapy water and hose the sucker down and see where the bubbles are coming from.

Nissan Pathfinder

We have a Nissan Pathfinder that is more than capable of handling the tow weight of our boat and trailer, but the suspension is definitely designed for a smooth ride over towing, so hooking up the boat left us with a definite dip in the back. These air helper springs did the trick and were so much easier and less expensive than replacing the suspension!! They made towing the 21 foot boat with trailer much easier and safer.

2017 Nissan Pathfinder

I put these on a 2017 Nissan Pathfinder 4x4. I pulled a 4500 pound single axel camper 30k miles with NO issues. I took it through the osceola national forest (if you know, you know) Never bottomed out and smooth as butter on the ride. I paired the inner coils with a husky weight distribution hitch. The helpers gave me about 1.5 inches off squat when at 20psi. You also do not need to run the air lines unless you just want to. I only needed to add air 1x when seasons changed. Great product.

by:

It's helps with the control of rear weight. I hauled a trailer across the United States with a Pathfinder and used these. Without them, the vehicle would of sagged and took every bump.

2010 Nissan Pathfinder

I received my order and installed the Air Helper Springs the next day. I had the opportunity to fully test them yesterday. They were not difficult to install and the instructions were easy to follow. I do wish there had been a video for my particular vehicle since I’m not exactly sure my routing of the air line around the exhaust the best location. Time will tell. After hooking up my trailer I adjusted the air, best I could, since all my tire gauges start at 10 lbs and go up from there. I did get the rear of the Pathfinder as level as I could. A recommendation from etrailer on a good digital or analog gauge would have also been helpful. I did pick up a digital gauge today, works great.
Thanks etrailer for a great products, instructions and your follow up email that answered my questions,

Excellent! I use it when I tow my equipment trailer and I haven’t had “any” problems. I did alter the hose configuration to a single point of air input instead of a valve for each bag. I know their reasoning but single input works better for me.

Hi. As requested bu etrailer, this is my one-year review.
Overall, works very well. Both units are in good shape, still hold air pressure, They have been on constantly for 4 seasons including our Canadian winter, and no issue. I added some grease on it to minimize friction with coil spring.
The only thing that does not work properly is that one of the hoses, which was routed from the spring valve to the supplied inflation port installed on the bumper, does not work, does not inflate spring. I don't know what the issue is, but I have to inflate at the valve directly, which sucks to access.
Thanks

by:

Excellent communication form order placement through delivery. The installation instructions are super clear as well. I’ll order again from etrailer!

by:

Was sent the wrong size. What was sent was way to small. Didn't find that out before I could send them back.

by:

Great product still working a year later

2014 Nissan Pathfinder

I installed these on my 2014 Nissan Pathfinder, which despite being rated to tow 5,000lbs, really struggled under the tongue weight of my boat trailer. These airbags really made a difference when towing and only when speeding over speedbumps do I notice them in normal conditions.

My only complaint is that the valve stem points down, which once hooked to the hose, sticks down nearly two inches and was routinely getting ripped off in the snow. I finally gave up the hose and just rolled under the car to increase the pressure (which I've only done once). The kit should really come with a 90* connector, but otherwise it works great.

by:

Easy install and works good

Fast delivery, exelent product.

2014 Nissan Pathfinder

Installation on 2014 Pathfinder didn't require Shock removal. It went in fairly easily. They are helpful although wonder if they shouldn't be slightly taller . With 5 passengers and trailer approx. 3500 lbs. still sags some. In my opinion Japanese cars all have Weak rear suspensions

Comments
How did you install with the stop built into the top spring seat? Also did you run the air hose out the bottom? Thanks
-- comment by: Will - 08/13/2014
To Will , To be honest, I didnt even look at the upper inside of the spring for a stop . I simply collapse the bags and worked them into the spring . Yes I have the air fitting and hose coming out of the bottom . I used extra cable ties to secure the hoses. I drilled NO holes in anything. I was carefully of routing the lines away from the heat of the exhaust. I mounted the Air fittings to the holes in the receiver. One complaint is that I have great difficulty in filling the them. I dont know if it is the Tire chuck I am using or the Fittings provided. I actually end up unscrewing the nut on the fitting and take the fitting and hose free from the receiver to press the tire chuck on far enough to fill them then remount the fittings to the receiver

These air bags definitely help with keeping the rear end higher than it would be (towing with a minivan, 300lb tongue weight), but as they are limited to 35psi, don't lift the rear as much as I would like. They are perfect for a full van by itself. Fairly easy install, only hard part is getting bags into coil spring. Air hose connections work very nicely. Used for 2 months and one 1000 mile towing trip so far.

2013 Nissan Pathfinder

The product came very soon after I ordered it and is just as what is pictured. While there are no instructions in the kit - I am a capable mechanic and do not need any. It was tough getting the bags into the springs of a 2013 Pathfinder. I relaxed the suspension as best I could, but the spaces in the coils are not large. It helped to insert the bags from the middle of each spring.

The air lines are a combination of schrader valves both conventional and friction fit - take care to trim the friction fit square. I used a sharp knife. I had to fabricate a mount for the exterior valves and used a piece of 1/8 sheet aluminum. I noted the difficulty of routing the air lines away from the hot exhaust and over extension and flexion. On my vehicle the air line must extend from the bottom of the spring and this will, unfortunately increase the risk that the line will foul on a road hazard.

Spend a few moments under your vehicle and route a path for the air lines before starting the install. Overall these bags seem to be a rugged option for a suspension boost. I will add to the review as time goes on if necessary.

Good product. takes some effort getting the bag inside the coils. As far as removing the frame bumper - didn't do it - it is pressed in between the frame and top of coil spring. So far so good

by:
2016 Nissan Pathfinder

I've installed the air springs and and they hold up great. I'm pulling a tall 5 x 10 enclosed trailer and no more sagging in the rear end. Air up the bags to 35 max PSI and the ride quality is excellent.

by:

Pleased with this product, and the customer service/follow-up I received. The kit was exactly as promised, a good fit for my vehicle. Installation of these is tricky but definitely doable. I was a bit frustrated with the delay of back-ordering, but recognize all shipping has been disrupted by the pandemic.

We ordered a suspension kit it came right away and at a great price. We had checked out several shops in town who said they were hard to get for our new vehicle and the cost was out of this world. Great job guys

  • Air Bag Helper Springs for a 2015 Nissan Pathfinder Towing a Travel Trailer
Suspension enhancement will help with the rear end squat on your 2015 Nissan Pathfinder. SUVs tend to have softer suspension compared to most trucks so even when using weight distribution some squat can still happen. For your Pathfinder # F4118 is the only option. When you are ready to start towing couple the trailer to the vehicle like normal. Then adjust the air springs as needed. I have included a link to the installation details for you.

  • Is Hose Kit for Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs # F4118 Necessary for Filling Bags
You will definitely want to install the included air hose kit with the Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs # F4118, as there likely won't be enough room to add air directly to the fittings on the bags, especially if the vehicle is loaded with any kind of cargo. The kit does come with nylon ties to secure the tubing at various points under the vehicle to help bring up any slack. This will prevent them from getting caught on anything or being torn off by snow like what you mentioned....

It is true that these air bags usually fit a variety of other applications as well but we can only confirm those tested by the manufacturer. There is not a confirmed fit from AirLift for a 2020 Nissan Pathfinder.

The Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs part # F4118 is a confirmed fit for your 2016 Nissan Pathfinder and the only option of its kind that we have for you. The air bag works by expanding which then limits the amount that the coil springs can compress. This will then reduce sag once a heavy load is applied. In order to install them you basically fold the bag and then slip them though the space in the coils. The bag does not need to extend the length of the entire coil, there can be...

  • Recommended Rear Suspension Enhancement For 2020 Nissan Pathfinder Towing Trailer
The Firestone Coil-Rite Air Helper Springs # F4118 you were looking at for your 2020 Nissan Pathfinder will do a much better job at preventing sag when your trailer is hooked up than your current suspension enhancement, but it may still sag slightly. That will be dependent on the tongue weight of your trailer. The # F4118 provides up between 500-1000lbs of load leveling support which is adjustable between 5-35 PSI.
