Hi there fifth wheel owners. Today we're going to be taking a look at Stromberg Carlson's line of replacement landing gear legs. We're going to be looking at both the leading as well as the following leg. These are available in either a 33 and a half inch or 29 and a half inch drop. And there is a difference between those and how it's going to fit in your fifth wheel, so stick along with us, and we're going to show you how to take the appropriate measurements to determine which one's best for you. Here on the inside, you can get a better look at our leg here.
And what you're going to be getting is just the leg that you see here. The leg is going to include the black outer sheathing here. It does have the attachment point at the top for our shaft to connect to, but the shaft does not come included with it.Brackets that it attaches to also don't come included. You'll be reusing those as well. Because the main purpose of these replacements is just for if you have a damaged leg, because in most instances, if your leg gets damaged, it's usually because of an accident.
It does happen. You leave your legs down, you hook up your truck to your fifth wheel, and you start to take off, move a little forward, and the next thing you know, your legs are now damaged. Rather than spend a bunch of money replacing the entire system. We can replace just the damaged components. This is the same leg we we're just looking at, and this is where it extends down through our trailer, the bottom of our tube here.
Coming out of our tube, we have the extension here that is operated by our motor, or if you have a manual crank. And it also includes the drop-leg down here.What you don't get is the quick release here. We do have these available here at etrailer. We just reused the customer's old one. And in most cases, your old hardware is going to be able to swap over, so if it didn't get damaged, then you can just go ahead and reuse it.
The foot also does not come included, but you will receive a new pin. This pin can either be used to attach a foot, or if you don't have a quick link, you can use this pin to operate your drop leg. You just have to pull the pin out, the leg will drop down, and then you have to manually re-insert the included pin over here.Over here we've got our lead leg, and this is going to be very similar to your following leg. The difference is the shaft that comes out of it is designed to hook to your motor or your manual crank. You will get a little bit extra hardware with the lead leg, because you'll get the collar and attachments. You can see the new hardware here, where it attaches to both the cross shaft, as well as the collar that holds our motor and motor transmission in place. The 33 and a half inch length legs are going to be a direct replacement for Stromberg Carlson's LG-2 and LG-4 systems. The 29 and a half inch legs are going to be a direct replacement for Stromberg Carlson's LG-1 and LG-3 systems. Now regardless of which one you get, they're going to have a total lift of 34 and 7/8ths of an inch. And that's going to be the amount that comes out plus the drop shaft.Now you may not be aware whether you have a Stromberg Carlson or what model yours is, whether it's an LG-1 or 2. The best way to determine if this leg is going to work with your system is to use some measurements. We're going to go ahead and show you how to take some measurements, because this is not going to work with just the Stromberg Carlsons. It'll work with any system, as long as your measurements line up. So we're going to go ahead and head into the shop and we're going to compare one of the customer's original legs with our new one, and we're also going to show you how the measurements you'll want to take, where you want to take them, and how to use those to purchase the correct leg here on our website.We've got our old jack sitting next to our new jack here. So you can see these are identical, but what you want to check beforehand, and you can do this while this is in here, because you can see where our bolt used to pass through, we want to measure the distance between our tabs. Because these are actually the mounting tabs that hold it in here. It'll rest on the brackets, and those bolts ensure that it's going to stay rested on those brackets. We're going to measure from the outside of our tab to the outside of our tab, and we've got 21 and a half inches here. The most common sizes are going to be 21 and a half inches like we've got here, as well as 19 and a half inches. That's the slightly smaller size, but those are the two most common.The last measurement we need is the total length measurement, and that's going to be from the bottom of our painted surface here, because this is what moves, it actually extends. We want the stationary portion and we want to measure from top to bottom, and we're measuring 33 and a half inches. The two most common sizes are going to be 33 and a half like we have here, and the smaller size, which is typically 29 and a half. More often than not the 29 and a half is going to have that 19 and a half distance, and with our 33 and a half, the length measurements here, most often, you're going to have that 21 and a half for your tabs. Once you've got your measurements taken, you can verify on our website here, when you're looking at the jacks that you are considering purchasing to make sure they're all going to match up with your old one. And that completes our look at Stromberg Carlson's line of replacement landing gear legs..

Love the speedy delivery and the product being exactly as described. The bolts and washers did dent up the top aluminum plate and almost punctured a hole but my husband smoothed it back out.
The parts arrived on time and were well packaged. I was also pleasantly surprised to see that the legs came with new hardware for securing the motor to the drive shaft and timing bar.

Purchased a replacement landing gear for our Fifth wheel.
RV is a Flagstaff 2014 and the gear failed on the 3 rd trip. Locked up, couldn't raise or lower so we were stuck. Mostly disappointed with Flagstaff. The follower on the worm gear was seized. Lots of lubrication and visually in perfect condition but seized in place.
Not a good thing to happen.
Had to remove the gear on sight and replace. Likely under warranty, but who is going to come out and fix it. Had to do it myself to continue with the trip.
Contacted etrailer and they had a direct replacement cheaper and faster than anyone. Was a pleasure dealing with them.

Landing Gear continues to work ok. The original hardware used by Forrest River however has not. Had to replace the cheap bolts they had used for interconnecting drive shaft. The bolts did not have a locknut or safety nut and the bolt worked loose causing some slight damage to the motor. The incident left us stranded.
I have a Montana 5th wheel and this landing jack leg replaced the worn out leg without any modifactions to the 5th wheel at all. Etrailer did an excellent job of completing my order ( submitted the order on a Monday and recieved it on Thur)

Hey Tom, I also have a 2009 Montana and a bad leg. Was concerned if this model leg was strong enough being rated at 3000lbs. My exiting leg is a Venture rated at 4000lbs. My 5th wheel is model 3455SA, what model is yours? Thnx, Jeff

Product LG-179014. The whole process from start to finish was excellent. Jesse was able to find the right part in stock. He took several minutes looking up just the leg that fit my 2009 Cyclone 40' Toyhauler. I receive the part a head of schedule (4days) and I had to do a little modification but with little trouble. This was my second order with eTrailer and I find the experience professional, helpful, and friendly.

Product is functioning perfectly and was a great buy. Will purchase the lead leg in not to distant future to replace one that is beginning to have a small issue.
I bought a replacement 5th wheel trailer 29.5" Jack with drop leg for Stromberg Carlson Landing gear from etrailer.com. The landing gear assembly was correct and arrived in a reasonable timeframe. I did the removal and replacement of the leg myself. I was very pleased with the product and service. I used my trailer this year - all worked perfectly.

Its a year later and the leg is still working perfectly!
The shipping was a little slower than I would have liked but the part arrived in very good condition and fit perfectly. To be perfectly honest, I found the same part on another on-line retailer for about $$50 less and with 2 day delivery, I might look there first if I need this part again.

I happened upon your product after a internet search for a replacement landing gear leg for my 31’ fifth wheel camper. I soon learned that Atwood had sold out and the company that purchased that division no longer manufactured the landing gear. The LG-179014 was a perfect replacement part through etrailer.com etrailers staff are amazing people that follow through to ensure you have what you need when you need it! Imidiate response to calls and emails...even over the weekend!!! I’m now a Very Happy Camper.
Arriving at a New Jersey RV park on July 1st, of the Independence day week end and soon discovered the right landing gear leg was not working. On Monday the 3rd I ordered a Replacement Follow Jack w/ Drop Leg for Stromberg Carlson Landing Gear - 29-1/2" - LG-179014, on-line. I tried to make contact via cell phone, but after two 3 minute waits I gave up on that idea, thinking it was a holiday also. I had the new part shipped UPS 3 day to an RV park in Delaware, where we would be arriving on Sat. We arrived, checked in, and received our package. Had it installed in 35 minutes. UPS Ground was free, and etrailer paid all but $9 of the upgrade to 3 day. Can't beat that. Rule #1. Always carry a hydraulic jack, a selection of wood blocks and automotive tools. You never know what will fail.
The landing gear that I bought from eTrailer have been great, they were easy to install and work spot on.

Still working great, should get years of service out of them.
Haven't had any issues with these landing gear products. Shipping was on time and not damaged. Easy installation videos were very helpful, and grease zerts are handy. Quick release pins working great. I recommend these products.
Needed a follow landing leg for my 5th wheel RV. etrailer had a near duplicate (Stromberg Carlson landing leg) for my Atwood. Easy to install and is working great.
Would like to have had shipping other than UPS. Placed order on Thursday. Order was in Jackson, MS, Friday at 3:30pm. Order didn’t leave Jackson untill 6:00am Monday morning. UPS is union workers. I lost work (oilfield gate guard) because of weekend delay.
The legs fit perfect . Both installed in less the an hour . The old ones were atwood but they fit the same . Thanks for getting me out of the dog house . My wife was pleased the 5th wheel was useable again .

Part still functioning well no problems
I have a 2005 raptor toy hauler and this part fit perfectly. It was the driver side so it was difficult to gain entry. ( due to the generator )After removing firewall in luggage compartment and make in a hole underneath the bed I succeed it was an adventure and with a little help from my friends succeeded.
