Features to know about

Smoother, Quieter Ride on the Road: 4" Tall Equalizers with Built-In Grease Zerks

Rough roads and long miles can wear down basic suspension parts fast. This heavy-duty kit includes 4" tall equalizers that measure 6" from bolt hole to bolt hole and feature built-in grease zerks for easy lubrication. Regular greasing keeps the suspension moving freely so your trailer tracks steady, absorbs bumps better, and tows more smoothly.

Stronger Connections That Last: 1/2" Thick Heavy-Duty Shackle Straps

Thin shackles are a weak link in many setups. The included 1/2" thick shackle link assemblies are built to take on heavy use without stretching or cracking. They secure the 1-3/4" double-eye springs to the equalizers with solid, wet bolts and flange nuts, keeping the suspension tight and predictable mile after mile.

Built for Long-Term Durability: Bronze Bushings and Zinc-Plated Wet Bolts

Where factory nylon bushings wear out fast, this kit’s bronze bushings hold up under load and resist corrosion. The zinc-plated wet bolts are just as strong as black-coated hardware but add extra rust protection. Together they keep the moving points in your suspension system working smoothly and quietly over time.

Well-Matched for Tandem-Axle Setups: Complete Hardware for a Precise Fit

Everything needed to tie your tandem-axle suspension together is in one kit—2 equalizers, 4 shackle strap assemblies with wet bolts, 8 bronze bushings, 2 dry suspension bolts, 4 wet suspension bolts, and 14 flange nuts. With correctly sized 9/16" bolt holes and a 2-1/4" shackle strap length, the fit is right on spec for consistent geometry and reliable operation.

Easy Maintenance and Dependable Performance: Thoughtful Dexter Engineering

Dexter designed this kit to make upkeep simple. The built-in grease fittings let you lube the pivot points without disassembly, and the robust steel hardware handles the stresses of tandem-axle travel. Once installed, it keeps your suspension moving freely and evenly—helping prevent harsh jolts, uneven tire wear, and premature component fatigue.

Excellent! Routinely keep them greased and they are performing great!

by:

Perfect product. Easy to install as long as you make sure that the trailer is well supported before banging old shackle bolts out and new ones in. Do not try to hammer the new sleeves into the spring eyes. Use a large C clamp. One of the pre-assembled shackle bolt units was slightly bent, not noticably so, but had to use some heat to install the matching plate.

It is such a great feeling that the springs are now riding on unborn shackles. The old ones were so worn that I am surprised that the springs were still connected to the chassis. Peace of mind is a great feeling.

Top quality suspension kit for my trailer. Got it done in 2 hours.

by:

The shackle and wet bolt kit has held up well over the past year with no issues. Not I can grease all the moving parts in the suspension.

by:

Dexter suspension kit was excellent. Added 14 more grease points which should help with wear. Very satisfied.
Bronze bushings replaced oem plastic in springs.

How TorkLift figures out to how make things work is amazing. Instructions were as clear as day, up until the metal pieces with slots. These pieces go inside the truck frame next to the TorkLift Big L shaped metal arms. This is a tight fit and We had to us a flat chisel and hammer to get them tapped into place. Take your time with this step. etrailer usually has an install video but unfortunately, not for this particular install. I was originally skeptical that the bolts and star washer would spin inside the frame when tightening the nuts from the outside. Everything went together perfectly.

by:

Very happy with the product and installation instructions. I anticipate better performance of the suspension with the greaseable brass bushings.

by:

Wow! This kit is amazingly heavy duty. Factory parts that came on trailer are wimpy, not serviceable and wear out. Like that bushings are bronze, not plastic and also greaseable.

by:

Overall I’m very pleased with this heavy duty suspension kit. It fit correctly and I’m sure this wet-bolt system will be much more durable than my old dry-bolt system, which at 4 years old was showing major wear, rust, and fatigue. The reason I gave it only 4 stars was because one of the nuts stripped out under very little torque, as if it hadn’t been heat treated and hardened. The bolt was fine. I reinstalled one of my old nuts and it torqued fine to 50 ft. lbs., per Dexter specifications. All other parts were fine.

by:

Nice heavy duty parts. Very happy!

by:

Replaced the old trailer suspension with the heavy-duty suspension kit, U-bolts, and leaf springs from etrailer. Everything fit like it should, and looks like it will last longer than I will.

by:

Absolutely a perfect fit. I was in a rush to make a trip to Western Colorado and Moab Utah when I noticed all my bushings were shot and had worn into the equalizers. I called Michelle and she had my parts on the way immediately. I also ended getting 4 new tires and wheels. Couldn't be more pleased with Michelle B and etrailer.com I highly recommend them. They have all the parts you need and the service is 2nd to none.

by:

Great product, had these on before a leaf spring busted on me and figured just replace all 6 springs and the hangers. Easy to grease and maintain, fit just like the originals that did not have grease-able bolts. Didn't want to reuse the bolts and nuts from the previous grease-able set I had on it, cheap insurance and peace of mind. Painted the hangers and the leaf springs to match my trailer.

by:

Already installed. Really like the thickness of the shackles!!!

by:

Seems like a good idea. I had one of the original shackles wear out on the road (which I repaired on road) so a little grease seems like a good idea and the shackles being twice as thick can't hurt. I was able to get the equalizer on both sides without too much trouble. However I was not confident in my ability to change the front outside and rear outside spring bolts SAFELY. I don't have the jack stands needed to hold up the frame on my 5th wheel. 24-30" of extension requires a very limited need stand with a pretty big footprint. If you're willing to invest in them and can get more use out of them than just moving them out of your way forever-Go for it. Installation was probably the same cost as the jack stands but it was done in 90 minutes. All that said they rode very good from Central Texas to Western Colorado and back on a Jayco 299RLS. I think the kit is well worth the money but installation might be a challenge.

by:

Great kit put together by Dexter! I did find that the eye bolts furthest away from the equalizer were better put in with grease zerk on the inside because the factory bolts had neck ribbing and they are much easier to drive in. The other bolt can all be put in either way .

Still working great !

by:

Much better than the suspension kit installed by the manufacturer. Everything fit perfectly and is grease-able.

by:

It was a battle to finally get them. Unfortunately I will not get them installed before leaving for our trip to Alaska. I will take them along incase we have an issue along the way. I would have preferred to have them installed because I had 3 that wouldn't take grease. Hopefully no problems and I will replace them all after the trip.

  • How to Find if Dexter Heavy-Duty Suspension Kit Will Fit on Trailer
The equalizers that come with the Dexter Heavy-Duty Suspension Kit # K71-448-00 have bolt holes that measure 6" apart on center and then 4" tall on center as you can see in the attached photo. You'll want to measure your current equalizers to see if they have similar dimensions or not. If they do then this is the kit for you. If they don't then just let me know what your measurements are and I can help you choose the correct replacement suspension kit from the linked selection.

  • Will Longer Equalizer Cause Problems for Trailer Suspension
Hi Chip; you might be able to get by with that, but I don't think it is worth risking issues with your suspension. As far as equalizers go it is quite a bit longer than your old one. Standard equalizers are pretty inexpensive, and a problem would potentially be very expensive, so I would get an equalizer that matches. I see your old equalizer is marked 13-10 but it doesn't line up with the standard 13-10 design. If you can measure your old equalizer and add those dimensions to the comments...

The important thing is making sure the shackle length stays the same. The # K71-448-00 kit comes with 2-1/4" long shackles, so as long as that matches what is on your trailer now, you will be good to go. The HD shackles and bronze bushings are great. Hey Dave. Yeah, you're definitely rubbing quite a bit. It could be from a larger tire diameter but it could also be your suspension. Could be a combination of both. Your new tires could be inflated at a different PSI causing them to be taller than the Chinese ones but seeing as how you replaced them with the same size I wouldn't think that's the issue. Hey Mike! Are you referring to the Dexter # K71-448-00? Adding a taller equalizer is possible but it won't raise the height of your overall trailer. You would also have to get longer hangers for the front and rear to match and raise the height. I don't recommend this since you may throw off your suspension if you don't get it right.
