Today I will be taking a quick look at the Brophy Hitch Reducer from a two inch to an inch and a quarter. This is part number HT02. We'll go ahead and show you how it performs. Here at the back of our ATV, our ATV does have a two inch hitch, which is installed on the back of our chassis. The adapter sleeve is going to work really well, because it allows us to install and inch and a quarter accessory onto our ATV. You can see that it has two pinholes here in the sleeve and that's going to allow us to actually slide it into the shank of our two inch hitch. Our hitch reducer does come with a half inch hitch pin, which is going to be used to install the sleeve to our two inch hitch. This is a great way to install an inch and a quarter accessory.
For example, if you have a two inch receiver installed on your ATV, but you have other inch and a quarter accessories, this little adapter sleeve is a great way to just slide it into your hitch instead of having to switch out receivers. You can see it is coated in a black powder coat finish that is going to help resist rust and corrosion. Now we have this other pin which is a standard 5/8 inch pin and clip that are sold separately. That's going to install your two inch accessories. For example, there is one pin that does come with this and that pin is usually designed to secure the sleeve to the receiver so that you will need an anti-rattle device or some sort of hitch pin and clip to secure your accessory. Now you can see that we have our inch and a quarter accessory, we're going to slide the shank into the tapered end of our sleeve. Now you can see that it's going to have a smaller diameter on one side of the sleeve and it's going to have a regular two inch diameter on the other side.
We'll slide this in and basically just line up the hitch pin hole with our accessory and the hitch pin hole with our adapter sleeve. Now that we have our accessory installed, we'll go ahead and show you how it performs. Now to complete today's review of the Brophy Hitch Reducer from a two inch hitch to an inch and a quarter, part number HT02. .

Simple design transforms your 2" receiver into a 1-1/4". This lets you use all your 1-1/4" hitch accessories, such as bike racks, cargo carriers, or ballmounts with a 2" hitch. Just pin it, clip it, and go!!!The weld failed on the reducer sleeve insert and has come loose. Sent it back for RMA, but the replacement had the same problem. My load was within limit (Thule T2 Pro 1-1/4" rack + 2 bikes). I gave up on it and just bought a new 2" rack.
Fits perfectly, added the Silent Hitch Pin and it’s awesome. Would recommend it because etrailer has been fantastic. One happy customer here.
Perfect hitch reducer and Anti-Rattle Hitch Lock combination to carry our two bikes around for the last year on our 2020 Rav4 Hybrid! Great value.
After a year I haven't had any problems with the hitch adapter or the bike rack that it's mounted to. I appreciate the year out follow up, and would like to say that I appreciate the care and concern for your customers.
It did what is was supposed to, reduce from a 2" to 1 1/4", it work but it is a little loose, bike carrier moves around a lot.
Good quality, did not work with my adap ter. Returned.
The hitch adjuster is solidly constructed and fits easily into my two inch hitch, though it seems a little loose. Some play is, however, probably necessary for normal use. My 1 1/4" bike rack fits well into the internal dimension. I plan to use tie downs to steady the bike rack and minimize side-to-side wobble. Not sure if the dimensions on outer and inner fit could be enlarged just a bit to improve wobble without causing difficulty with assembly and removal. I may be able to add something more about this once I have worked with it under driving conditions. Overall, the product is just what I expected it to be.
The product arrived with several scratches which may have been caused by the pin hitting the reducer during shipping. It is mainly cosmetic, but I was expecting a scratch free product. The reducer does functionally work so I am satsified.
The service from etrailer is exceptional! I needed this adapter for our 5th Wheel RV. We have a bike rack and the 2” receiver hitch needed to be 1.25 for the bike rack. The original was adapted with a rubber reducer but it wobbled way to much. So the fix was a adapter sleeve. I was pleased to find on on etrailer. However, the price was high. I bought it anyway and then still had to shim the bike rack and the adapter to make a tight fit. It works however for the 60+ $ I paid it should have fit the receiver better and the bike rack better.
It's heavy-duty, sure enough. Plenty stout for a 1 1/4 bike rack. However, I've noticed other posts citing the 2" adapter as just a bit small. My hitch is a brand new CURT #13200, so it isn't because of a worn receiver - your product is the first thing in it. If it were small in just one dimension it wouldn't rock side-to-side so badly, but it's small in both height and width by about a sixteenth or so. Just enough for a shim both top (or bottom) and side. That's annoying. The good news is, the 1 1/4 bike rack fits just fine, especially since my Hollywood rack uses a threaded bolt to anchor it in place. The 1/2" hitch pin you supply is redundant. The larger size would have been useful, the one you sent is not. Whatever 1 1/4 item we're adapting to either already comes with a 1/2" pin or your customer was already using one in the first place. Complaints aside, THIS is the ONLY 1 1/4 adapter on the market that works. My other choice is to have one fabricated. About the same cost, and this is a time saver.
What I especially like about this product is it is much shorter and compact compared to other hitch adapters. This allows my bike carrier to be mounted several inches closer to my vehicle, but still has sufficient clearance from the bumper. The shorter design also results in less sway and bounce of the bike carrier. On the downside, I think it's probably the most expensive 2" to 1 1/4" hitch adapter on the market. But hey, you get what you pay for.
Great product if you intend to use it as a small extension as well as a reducer you’ll need 2 pins, if you live in any city I would recommend both a dedicated 5/8 locking pin and a sleeved 1/22 - 5/8 locking pin. The sleeved version gives you the option of using as an extension but if you just want to use a single lock most 1 1/4 hitches require a 1/22 locking pin. If you buy the non sleeved version it will be too short to go through the entire receiver/ adapter/ ball mount assembly forcing you to use 2. All of this is available on etrailer, buy it now and be prepared not surprised. Trust me, you will get robbed at your local no service auto parts store.
Still not quite the snug fit I was hoping for - but it certainly accomplishes the goal of being able to insert the Kuat rack. For further security, I added a lock that keeps the rack from swaying as much. The line up of the hitch, the insert, and the bike rack was challenging but improved the overall install.
This product worked like a charm. I was trying to find a product to mount my Bell bike rack on a 2" Hitch and reduce it to 1 1/4". My bike rack was quite unstable with the plastic reducer Bell had provided. With this product, my bike rack fits well with no rattle and I drove a long distance carrying 4 bikes during father's day without any problems.
Hitch is very well built and works well. Required a step-down to fit Audi hitch and customer service provided outstanding advice and service. Professional. Very, very happy with product, transaction and service.
This adapter did not work for me. I bought the adapter to accommodate a Kuat Bike rack. The adapter did not hold the rack tight and steady. It was very wobbly. I did find an adapter with a spring that tightened down to the male end of the Kuat Bike rack which worked amazingly.
Works great. There is a little bit of space and rattle, but if you pair this with the anti rattle hitch pin it's super solid.
I bought this to use a cargo rack that was given to me on my 2013 Murano. My hitch is 2" and the cargo carrier is 1 1/4". This made the transition perfectly. The best part is it's not so long like any of the others that I've found. This being only 7" long, my cargo rack does not stick out so far like it would with a 12" adapter. Fast shipping, great communication from etrailer.
There is a fair amount of play between this adapter and a 2" receiver so any attachments used (bike rack or cargo rack) will rock back and forth more than expected. I used small pieces of aluminum to shim between the adapter and the receiver the minimize the movement.
Product is solid, easy to connect just as advertised. Delivery was fast and good notification as it progressed. My bike rack came with an anti-wobble bolt that tightens it to the receiver. Without it, this unit would wobble using just the pin that came with this product. But they all seem to have this problem to some degree.
Very satisfied, easy ordering online with fast delivery. This adapter installs in a few seconds with no tools required. It is a little lose fitting but can be removed just as easily as installing. Wish it came with a 5/8 pin as i already have the smaller one.
I have used the reducer carrying my two bikes on a Kuat rack for over 800 miles without problems. I did put two pennies on one side where there was slack between the reducer and the sleeve. Without it, the rack bounced around a lot more. Well made and will last for ever.
I have been using it to adapt my older bike rack (1-1/2 inch) to my newer car which has a 2" hitch on it. It still works and looks like new over many trips these past months.
I purchased a hitch to mount my hitch mount bike rack. I fully intended to purchase the Class II, 1.25" hitch, but after speaking with the e-trailer rep it made more sense to go with the Class III hitch and use a reducer for the bike rack. It gives me more flexibility with my hitch. Thanks e-trailer guys for asking the right questions and making sure I had the correct product for my needs.
E-trailer website made it easy to find what I needed and compare. Best priceI found, and the pin was included. Products I ordered were shipped and delivered promptly. The hitch adaptor works great
