Thanks for your question Stephan. The Thule Replacement Aluminum Shank Adapter # 853-7292 is only compatible with the Thule RidgeLine and both the 2-bike and 4-bike Roadway bike racks. Unfortunately, it is not compatible with the Thule T2 Classic.

Based on your question, I believe you're trying to use a T2 Classic with a 1-1/4-inch shank in a 2-inch hitch receiver. An easy way to accomplish that is with a hitch reducer sleeve, such as the # HT02. This reducer slides into your vehicle's 2-inch receiver and allows you to safely install 1-1/4-inch hitch-mounted accessories like your T2 Classic. The # HT02 doesn't affect your tongue weight capacity like other adapters so it'd be a great option here. You'll also want to verify that the combined weight of the rack and bikes stays within the tongue weight ratings of both your vehicle and hitch receiver.

While we no longer carry the T2 Classic, the versions I'm familiar with are rated to carry up to 60 lbs per bike. If you can send me the model number from your specific T2 Classic, I'd be happy to confirm its exact capacity.

What model e-bikes are you carrying, and approximately how much does each one weigh?

@StephanR The Thule T2 Classic 9045 has an overall weight capacity of 100 lbs (50 lbs per bike) so you may be pushing the weight capacity. A lot of folks remove the battery if that's an option to lighten the load. If you end up needing to go with a different bike rack, something like the Hollywood Racks Sport Rider # HLY74FR would be a good option. This will work with a 1-1/4" or 2" receiver and will accommodate two electric bikes up to 80 lbs each.
