Recommended Hitch Adapter w/ Rise for a 1-1/4" Hitch

Updated 09/13/2024 | Published 09/11/2024

Question:

Good morning ETrailer Customer Support Team, I have a 1-1/4” hitch and a 1-1/4” hitch-mounted bike rack on a Camry. The only problem is that the bike rack drags when I enter/exit my driveway ? I would like to elevate my bike rack somehow. I think that a 1-1/4” to 1-1/4” hitch adapter with a 4-6” rise would work. I am certain that you have other customers with this need. Can you make this adapter? Ready to purchase. Thank you. Douglas Moore [email protected]

Hey Doug! The closest thing we have to what you're asking for is the 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Adapter item # e93YR. This has a 5" rise and most likely won't work for your Camry for the same reason what you're asking for doesn't exist in a 1-1/4" to 1-1/4" size.

Any and all hitch adapters and extenders reduce the hitches tongue weight and towing capacity by 50%. A Toyota Camry's hitch like item # C12107 only has a 350 lbs capacity. Adding this adapter fixes the dragging problem but now you only have a 175 lbs tongue weight capacity which includes the bike rack and the bike/s.

If you add up your bike rack and your bike/s weight and you come up with less than 175 lbs, then I do have a solution for you. You can use the 1-1/4" to 2" Trailer Hitch Adapter item # e93YR and the Hitch Reducer 2" to 1-1/4" item # HT02. The reducer won't mess with your capacity and it'll get that 2" receiver back down to 1-1/4" so you can mount your bike rack.

I highly recommend checking your bike rack's owner's manual to confirm it is compatible with hitch adapters as quite a few of them will not be.

Hi Jerred, Thank you for your quick and thorough response. What is best for my case: • e93YR or HT5R • HT02 or e63YR? Thanks again. Doug

@DouglasM You're welcome Doug! I would go with the item # e93YR and item # e63YR. This is the most cost affective way to accomplish what you are wanting to do.

@DouglasM Hey Doug! With your set up I would go with two of the same style Roadmaster anti-rattle devices. Item # RM-061-125 for the 1-1/4" and item # RM-061 for the 2".
