Question:
ICoverting a shank on a Yakima Dr. Tray from 1.25” to 2”. I saw a similar question and answer where it was suggested using a reducer, which is an option. I was wondering if there is an option to replace the shank with a 2”. Do you have a way to order the shank itself? I would prefer this method. Also I have the same issue with the GX rear door being a swing open. Does the TH65JV rack allow for the door to be opened when the carrier is mounted with or without bikes or does it rest on the bumper for support.

Alright, so let's start with the Dr. Tray; I checked with Yakima for you and there isn't a replacement shank/stinger for the Dr. Tray so there's no way to convert it from a 1-1/4 inch to 2 inch shank. So the best option really is going to be a hitch reducer, with one specific option I recommend:
- Hitch Reducer 2" to 1-1/4" Trailer Hitch Receiver # HT02
The reason I recommend going with this reducer is because unlike most reducers it does not reduce the tongue weight capacity of your hitch. So you aren't going to be losing anything by going to this adapter, it'll simply allow you to keep on using your Dr. Tray with your 2 inch hitch. Keep in mind this reducer does need to be secured to your 2 inch hitch, and for that I highly recommend a hitch lock:
- Trailer Hitch Receiver Lock for 2" Hitches # e98880
As for the Thule OutWay Platform # TH65JV, they do not allow for a rear hatch to be opened with bikes on, and unfortunately does not fit your 2005 Lexus GX 470. So the best option to keep using your (very nice) Dr. Tray bike rack is to use the Hitch Reducer # HT02.
I have added a link below to a video review of the reducer for you to check out as well if you'd like to take a look.
