Axle Dimensions

Hub Face and Spring Center Measurements on Standard Trailer Axle

There are multiple ways to measure the length of an axle beam, but the hub-face-to-hub-face and spring-center-to-spring-center lengths are the most accurate. Hub face (A) refers to the length of the axle measured from the base of one wheel stud to the base of the wheel stud on the opposite side of the axle (when hubs are mounted on the beam).

The spring center (B) is the approximate width of your trailer. It is measured from the center of the spring seat on one side of the axle to the center of the seat on the other. This axle beam comes with the spring seats welded on.

If you are replacing your trailer's axle, you should be able to figure out which type you need by determining your trailer's capacity, the bolt pattern of your wheels, the brake type and the aforementioned lengths.

E-Z Lube Spindles Make Lubrication Simple

The E-Z Lube spindles on this axle are meant to work with E-Z Lube-compatible hubs to make lubricating your bearings quick and easy. Each E-Z Lube spindle has a zerk fitting on the end. And every E-Z Lube hub comes with a grease cap that has an easy-to-remove rubber plug. Just pop out the plug on the cap to access the zerk on the spindle. When you inject grease into the zerk with a grease gun, the grease will flow to both the inner and outer bearings of the hub, lubricating the bearings and forcing out old, ineffective grease. Once you see new grease beginning to be pushed out, you know that your bearings are fully lubricated. This means that you can lubricate the bearings without the mess of taking apart the entire assembly.

Dexters

Dexters are made of high-strength steel and come with spindles and spring seats welded on. The spring seats are attached to the underside of the axle so that the leaf springs (sold separately) can mount beneath the axle. The result of this underslung design is a trailer that rides a bit lower for quick and easy loading and unloading.

Each axle is manufactured to create a certain camber angle. This ensures that the angle of the wheels is correct for your towing needs. Because the primary concern when towing is maintaining controlled, in-line movement, each axle is made so that your trailer's tires will run along the pavement evenly, with contact across the width of the tread. The result is excellent straight-line acceleration for steady, in-line tracking. You might notice the bend near the center of the axle; this is what ensures the proper camber angle. Having the center ride a bit higher and the sides of the axle bent lower allows the axle to give just enough to compensate for the load.

I replaced the noodley Lippert axles that bent on my utility trailer. Much better. They also have the proper bend in them for the load compensation. I took the part number off the Lippert axle, and etrailer was able to cross reference the part numbers for perfect fit.

by:

Exactly like the original

Super fast shipping on quality products. Etrailer always comes through with what we need!

Easy peazy, I've purchased two of these. Sure beats driving all over to find the right axle. Arrived timely and installed easily. Big trip next week so they will get the test, but dexter axels have great reliability.

by:

Awesome results. I purchased with new leaf springs and hardware. Very solid. I imagine that most of you struggling failed to research and measure properly. Take responsibility and own your results.

The axle, springs, and hardware has given me 0 issues. The 14 angle iron trailer frame will bend before the axle does.

I have run this axle for a year now and I am impressed! Im actually changing the other axle this year. the dexter east lubes are the way to go

by:

They working out great .

Great pricing on replacement axles. Saved about 35% over what I was quoted locally. Packaging consits of shrink wrap and rubber caps over the spindles. Shipping speed was exceptional!

by:

When I purchased my 20' trailer, I didn't notice the axel was bent, the top of the tires were sticking out. I called the business where I purchased it and they told me I hit something. I need to replace the axel. After much searching, I found etrailer and after chatting with the very knowledgeable folks, I purchased a replacement axel with everything else I needed to to the job. It's been a year now and it's great. I would definitely use etrailer for all my future needs.

Thank you etrailer!

Arrived as described. Great service.

by:

Awesome, I can order a whole axle and have it delivered in under a week! Great quality, fit like a glove. Love it was prewired for brakes, not all axles on line have that.

by:

Trailer axel fit properly without issues to replace an axel that broke probably from heavy loads on very potted country roads. So far this axel has held up and performed beautifully. Provided instructions and videos very helpful including information to select correct replacement axel. These folks go out of their way to help ensure correct installation and use. Far better than any other supplies I have used.

Fast shipping excellent service

by:

A year on, and the axle is doing great. I have no issues. It all installed as would be expected. The best part was the customer service. For an online retailer, the staff was super helpful and made buying online very convenient. Give them a try on your next purchase. I bet you end up like me.

by:

Disappointed. I bought a pair of these axles to replace the originals from my trailer, one of which had rusted so much that it broke. They are the same manufacturer and part number, but updated versions. Unfortunately, one of them already bent, while carrying the exact same load (a pickup truck) that the old rusted ones had handled just fine about five years ago. I like the fit and initial quality, the updated greasing system and nut retainer are nice, but really not something I care about--I'm fine with repacking bearings the old way and securing the nut with a cotter pin. I'm not sure that they are as strong, as the old ones lasted until they rusted out, and one of these has already had to be replaced less than a year after installation.

Fast ordering and delivery

by:

Ordered and received in 3 business days. EXCELLENT!! Thank You.

by:

Arrived when it said it would! Was a great fit, and packaged with care. Thoroughly inspected for any defects and passed with flying colors! etrailers website is easy to navigate and user friendly will definitely be ordering more in the future!

by:

I'm very happy with the axle I just bought it went right on my trailer like it was made for it which it was and I had no problem I'll be ordering more shuff for my trailer soon as I get the money

  • Best Way to Determine Axle Weight Rating
The way I recommend assessing your axle capacity is by measuring the diameter of the axle tube. I recommend using digital caliper to do this and you can use the following to find out what the typical capacities of an axle are per their diameter: - 1,000-lb - 2,000-lb Axles: 1-1/2 inch - 1-3/4 inch diameter - 3,500-lb Axles: 2-3/8 inch diameter - 6,000-lb - 7,200-lb Axles: 3 inch diameter - 8,000-lb Axles: 3-1/2 inch diameter - 9,000-lb Axles: 4 inch diameter - 10,000-lb Or more axles:...

There's going to be a lot of measurements needed for replacing the axle, leaf springs, and hubs on your boat trailer. There isn't a way we have to look anything up based on model number which is why the measurements are the only way to do this. Since your trailer is going to be a triple axle setup you'll have to go with a traditional style of axle like the # 7359765 and not a Timbren like you mentioned. Reason being that the Timbrens don't have equalizers so when going over uneven terrain more weight gets put on a single axle at a time than a traditional axle that uses equalizers. Equalizers (like the name implies) allow all three of the axles to carry the weight of the trailer even on bumps or uneven terrain. To pick out an...
